I was in situations when people I knew irl and had as friends in vkontakte discovered me on other websites where I used neither my real name nor any photos. E-mail that the account was registered to was the only thing remotely connecting me to those people but officially the website didn't have "search by e-mail" function, it just suggested potential friends "you may know" doing some spying behind the curtains.
Same thing happened to my mom – sometimes she was suggested friends she only knew from work irl. There was no other connection between them, they didn't even work in the same company, just exchanged work phone calls once in a blue moon, that's all.
