Fred Armisen | Is He Joking? | Mike Birbiglia’s Working It Out
Fresh off a few gigs featuring on John Mulaney’s new tour, Mike welcomes Fred Armisen for his first in-studio appearance on Working it Out. They discuss Fred’s SNL audition, his best sketch writing advice, and the manners of navigating video exhibits in museums. Plus, Fred borrows Mike’s guitar to demonstrate how cultures around the world play the acoustic guitar.

I laughed out loud at the "we are seeking the third" – listening to process and these podcasts have been instrumental in building work. Thank you for these.

I think Fred is just so earnest people think that's the bit. Like his honest, gentle way of being is a bit. He couldn't possibly be that so it's a jokey joke. And then it is, cuz he is. 😭 This was a fun conversation, thanks for another one! 💗✨

I like Fred, but he needs to speak up. It's hard to catch everything he's saying.

Fred Armisen once did an impression of a decomposing animal at high speed, and I'm still not over it. So funny, I started cry-laughing.

The Californians is gold. I’m an hour from LA, and 100% we talk like this. I’m not even sure it can be considered satire.

I like Fred Armison and Mike Barbiglia (which is not at all how you spell his name) – But the thing i want to say is that youtube made the font really small for me. Every thing is really small font now and I dont understand why. I've resatarted my computer. Evererything is very small still.

I have always felt like Mike Birbiglia is the kind of person who is rude to service people or anyone of "lower" perceived status than him. I don't know why – I have no evidence for it. It's just a vibe thing. Am I the only one?

Couldn’t agree more with Fred. We live in a world of “singles” that would be realized a lot better as part of a whole.

I was an extra on Portlandia and Fred was so friendly and cool. He actually pulled me into a scene unexpectedly. They didn’t end us using it in the show, but I felt honored.

It’s surprising and interesting that Fred says Wednesday is the biggest thing he’s been a part of and that he can “feel it” bc I saw some random interview last year about Jeff Goldblum saying the same thing about Wicked and that he could feel that about wicked as well. But they’re obvi both iconic ppl who are bigger than those and almost any project so I’m curious what the “big” quality is that they’re referring to. Is it the studio or money or centralized public attention or all 3? I wonder how a Netflix show could be bigger for both of them than being on a weekly tv time slot with a huge audience
