Red Hoop Talk EP 85: Allen Brian Wallace, Washoe/Nisenan Land & Language Protector
Allen Brian Wallace, citizen of the Washoe Tribe and Nisenan descendant, is a respected leader with over 25 years of dedicated service to the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California, where he served multiple terms as Tribal Chairman and Vice Chairman. His leadership was instrumental in protecting sacred Washoe sites, including those around Lake Tahoe, and establishing cross-cultural partnerships, such as the “Accords of Friendship and Cooperation” with the Republic of Buryatia in Siberia. As a founding member of the Lake Tahoe Federal Advisory Committee, Wallace’s influence helped secure ongoing funding for environmental restoration across the Lake Tahoe basin.
Wallace also established the Washoe Tribe’s Environmental Protection Department, Washoe Development Corporation, and Washoe Land Trust, among others. Today, Wallace remains dedicated to Native cultural preservation through the Lizzie Enos Nisenan Family Foundation and advocacy for the “Rights of Nature” doctrine to protect Bear River.
