Native Bidaské With Rachel Thunder (Plains Cree Tribe) & Attorney Kevin Sharp

Native News Online | April 22, 2025

Political prisoner Leonard Peltier (Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa) turns 78 years-old on Monday, September 12.
Join Native News Online Editor Levi Rickert and staff reporter Darren Thompson as they interview Rachel Thunder (Plains Cree Nation) and Kevin Sharp about their efforts to release Leonard Peltier.
To many American Indians and others, Peltier, is a symbol of an oppressive federal system that confines Native people to a dismal place in American society. He is a political prisoner that we may only think about if we happen to see a bumper sticker on the back of a vehicle that reads “FREE Leonard Peltier.”
Rachel Thunder is the lead walk organizer of the “Walk to Justice: Free Leonard Peltier” that is currently underway. She is the director of AIM’s True People of Indiana and Kentucky Chapter.
Kevin Sharp is former Chief Judge for the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee, now in private practice, agreed to take the Peltier case pro bono and fight for his freedom.
