This is how to get into Animal Collective.

If you’ve ever attempted to get into the experimental group, you might have heard some otherworldly sounds that either had you listening closer or turning it off completely. Listening to Animal Collective chronologically may not be best way to dive into the madness. So where to start with Animal Collective?

Animal Collective’s creative output from 2004 to 2009 was nothing short of astounding.

2004 – Sung Tongs
2005 – Feels
2007 – Person Pitch (Panda Bear)
2007 – Strawberry Jam
2009 – Merriweather Post Pavilion
2009 – Fall Be Kind EP

Four amazing albums within a five year span — each with their own definitive sound. Plus a noteworthy EP and not to mention one of the group’s members releasing a solo album credited with influencing vapor wave, released within that same period of time. I can’t recall another band or artist who have come close to matching the critical attention Animal Collective held at that period. They were arguably the indie band of that decade. There was nothing else out there like them and I doubt we’ll see a band as unconventional as them breakthrough again.

Let’s review Animal Collective’s Golden Era, the best place to start if you want to get into the experimental group.
