I mean, I always wonder about that, YouTube has really gotten to know me over the years and quite often I get shown something I would be interested in. Granted, nestled in between several I couldn't give a damn about and several I already watched before, but at least something. But what is it deciding not to show me? How can I know if I want it if its 'too far away' from what I currently have my algo trained to? But then I visit YouTube in a private browser tab and the completely unfocused Algo is a rough experience too. Ah well, it got me to Julie Nolke, so it can't be all bad.

When my dad was dying of cancer, I googled the hospice centre they were planning on sending him to (he passed before he made it there). The name of the hospice centre here is also a popular name for businesses in another country. For months after his death, I kept seeing ads for businesses with similar names to the hospice centre he never made it to, plastered everywhere I went on the internet. We live in a hellscape.

You know what the alternative is? SUBSCRIBING!! I'm old school so I turned the algorithm off and subscribe to channels I want to see.
Context: social media companies created businesses by taking away RSS feeds, ie. subscription feeds, and gave you the convenience of recommendations. We could collectively destroy these companies if people took back the power and inconvenience of subscribing

Sometimes you like Hall & Oates and sometimes you like something else? Here is a recommendation from a friend: Garfunkel & Oates. Close enough but completly different! Friends – we take the AI out of lgorthm. Algorithm. Keywords used to find connection: woman, funny, comedy, english, Oates, pregnant.
