We live in a constant state of anxiety, waiting for the next time our phones will light up so that our brains can be flooded with that rush of pleasant emotions caused by none other than dopamine, the most controversial hormone. On the one hand, Pinterest is rampant with photos of people tattooing the molecule on themselves. Fashion magazines and blogs flaunt dopamine fashion trends, bright, bold colors that can supposedly trigger the coveted chemical release.

I agree, it doesn’t heal wounds, but it can help with mood for many days afterward. Another idea is to limit rather than to cut, which can help but still. We need to see friends and build connections and fight together using the combo method. Cut, then limit afterward. The results will work more effectively because of our environment and the original blow from the cut. Just my thoughts though. (I need to see my friends more often IRL)

No one is trying to "get rid of all dopamine" they're trying to increase the sensitivity to dopamine that was dulled by overstimulation.

The goal of a dopamine detox is not to erratic dopamine… That is a frustrating misrepresentation. It is about temporarily ridding yourself of the nonstop distractions, which will feel bad at first, but once they are gone you can moderately re-add them. If you are not planning to stop using ticktok and instagram obsessively than a detox has no value… If you are planning to make life changes, giving yourself a strong baseline makes change much easier. Ask any addict who has been to rehab.

APERTURE: Can you do a video on ketamine addiction? Ketamine is an NMDA blocker not associated with dopamine but has a "dissociative" effect. It is considered very safe, has no overdose potential, and physical dependence addiction is considered not "physically" addictive, meaning no withdrawal symptoms. It seems to create the dissociation effect from dopamine addiction, allowing someone to be less stressed and be present. It also can be used for pain and depression effectively. It seems to create the "new lenses" and allow us to constantly be in the pleasure part of our brain. It can make focusing at work very difficult, but it is better to communicate with colleagues by understanding their perspectives. High doses can create the "shower effect" and give you answers to work and life problems.

As a person (15) with neurotransmitter dopamine deficiency, I can confirm that without proper dopamine function you experience a lack of…
▪︎memory (forgetfulness)
▪︎Balance
▪︎ feelings of excitement
▪︎ as he said, if this condition is left untreated- it can cause depression, anxiety, feelings of hopelessness, and worse.
▪︎ social withdraw (introversion, anti social behavior or otherwise)
▪︎motivation
▪︎ And more
This does in fact interfere with multiple aspects of my life.. for example:
I like anime related art quite a lot. I hope to one day be able to make my art into a very fun Hobbie or even a career. However I can't bring myself to study anatomy in order to achieve this goal. Because of this, I may never reach this aspiration of mine….
Lack of motivation of course doesn't stop there, this condition makes it difficult to complete daily important tasks that are essential to life and happiness. Im talking about brushing my teeth, exercise, hydration, and schoolwork. This laziness will also keep me from helping those around me.
As an introvert, my need to have friends is lower than others. BUT when I do attempt to talk to people, and may even enjoy their company, it will usually end in me ghosting them because of my lack of interest and my relationships suffer for this (idk maybe this is just something unrelated but it probably has to do with neurotransmitter dopamine deficiency). Again- I don't largely feel the need to have friends but this problem could be interfering with me actually having fun and will effect those around me aswell.

When my daughter was about 12 years old, she was no longer able to sit and watch a movie with me. She said she got too anxious and fidgety and needed to spend time on her phone. I thought that was ridiculous. But now I struggle as well. I can’t read books anymore. There’s just too many other things I’d rather do that I could learn quickly. I no longer watch the bachelor anymore because there’s so many other interesting things to watch. I’ll start watching a movie and then think about all the other possible movies I could be watching. It’s a very strange feeling.

Watching these videos makes me feel like an outsider. I don't spend any time on my phone other than to keep in contact with relatives via text messages and phone calls and to check the flight arrival times for the airport that I work at. Unlike most people, who get a rush of dopamine and a feeling of validation from notification sounds and push notifications, I get either a feeling of annoyance, in which case I groan, or anxiety, in which case I won't look at my phone for hours at a time. I don't ever feel any compelling urge or impulse to look at my phone, and when I happen to receive a text message or an email, I don't look at it immediately. When my phone rings, I have no problem letting it ring and going to voicemail if I happen to be preoccupied with another activity. All in all, I spend barely any time using my phone. For that reason, I feel like a fish out of water when I'm around people in my age demographic who realize and admit that they spend too much time on their phones. I simply cannot relate to them. However, I can clearly see that technology addictions are a serious problem affecting my generation.

I want to clarify that some recent scientific research has demonstrated that dopamine and its corresponding dopaminergic pathways might have more to do with motivation and salience than pleasure. The brain's reward system has stronger ties to endorphin (endogenous morphine) and the brain's intrinsic opioid-benzodiazepine pathways that use neurotransmitters like endorphin. If this is the case, in the example of eating, dopamine is the neurotransmitter that makes you hungry, but endorphin is the neurotransmitter that gives you pleasure from eating food. It might also help to explain heroin and fentanyl's addictive potential, excluding the withdrawal symptoms. They're pure chemical pleasure.
