Vanity Fair | October 25, 2025

Iconic voice-over artist Yeardley Smith reviews impressions of the Lisa Simpson voice she made famous. From Lisa’s laugh to her poem about the Simpsons’ cat Snowball, we pulled together the best (and most nasally) impressions of Lisa for Yeardley’s review. She definitely has some notes.

Small Town Dicks podcast, hosted by Yeardley Smith with identical twin Detectives Dan and Dave and Investigator Paul Holes, follows big-time crime in Small Town USA, with all cases told by the detectives who investigated them. New episodes are released every Friday wherever you get your podcasts.

The mistake people make when trying to do a character's voice is they focus on imitating how they hear the character's voice. I think it is important to first, learn how to do an impression of the voice actor's voice, then do them doing the character's voice. Don't just do your best Kermit the Frog impression, do Jim Henson, then do him doing Kermit the Frog. Basically, if you can sound like the voice actor you can do the character(s) they do.

I kept looking at her because something was just weird. Then I realized it’s because her eyes are incredibly close together, and now I can’t stop staring at it.

I hope Lisa Simpson never grows up. She'll become a newly wed trapped inside of a truck stop owned by Commissioner Gordon while Billy the Kid fights evil driverless trucks
