Wolf with large chunk of flesh dangling from leg
The breeding female of the Peatlands Pack had a golf-balled size chunk of flesh dangling off her front leg for the majority of last winter. Sustaining injuries and wounds like this is pretty commonplace for wolves who are hardy creatures that are built to sustain such things and keep on going.
The wolf appeared pretty unfazed about this and she successfully had pups and reared them last spring. Eventually, the chunk of flesh one way or another got ripped off. And now the female is easily recognizable via a large scar on her front leg.
How she got this injury is unknown but we would guess it likely is from chasing/attacking prey. The injury could have been from her slicing her leg on a sharp rock, log or other object while running full speed through the woods, or it could also have been an injury sustained from the prey itself.
There are many accounts of wolves receiving all sorts of injuries from prey when trying to kill them. However, it is not quite clear how a deer (wolves’ main prey during winter) could have done this.
Though, to be fair, the we aren’t sure whether she received this injury in the winter or the previous fall. If from the fall, then it is possible this injury could be from the sharp front teeth of a beaver which could easily carve off a chunk of flesh like this.
Who knows but interesting to think about.

I've got on camera a female that hung around with another female 813 while raising pups in her rendezvous area… she was missing her front left leg, was getting around just fine.

A beautiful breeding female overcoming her injuries to give wildlife another chance. Amazong sequence of footprints in the snow as the animal trots. Thanks for sharing.

We humans are also built to sustain such traumatic injuries. Unfortunately, our current change to PROCESSED GARBAGE as a huge *nutrition source, has severely weakened a bodies potential for regeneration. Wolfs do what? Eat meat, fat, organs etc and fast.
