Wolf pack slips through a snowy forest
A tranquil moment this winter as the Whiskey Point Pack quietly slipped through the snowy forest.
High-quality footage such as this allows us to individually identify all the wolves in each of the 22-25 packs we study annually. We then use this data to measure and understand changes in wolf population dynamics over time.
In this footage, we see the breeding female first. She is followed by her 1 year old son. The next wolf is the seasoned breeding male, an orangish-red bruiser of a wolf. Behind him, is the pair’s 1 year old son, who lost the top part of his right ear when a pup. To the far right, almost out of frame is another 1 year old male.
Importantly, the footage shows that the pack did not have any pups this past year that survived until the winter, which is not uncommon.

I love watching videos like this, of a wolf pack traveling together. We get a glimpse into their way of life.

Funny how the first two have "Big Bad Wolf" eyes, whereas the second two just looked like a couple of dogs. The end straggler of the dog pair proves the point at the end.
