Wolf pack moving through the night in the Northwoods
Nothing like some new footage to shake things up. We just checked a camera that revealed all 5 Lightfoot Pack pups survived until late fall of last year…and possibly longer. What a difference from 2020 when all 7 Lightfoot pups were dead by late fall!
Anyway, the footage was surprising because other footage from last fall only captured 3 or 4 pups together at a time but never 5. Given that, we thought that 1 or 2 pups didn’t make it. But you never know what you aren’t seeing with cameras (which is why we have a lot of them out!).
How do we know all 5 made it from this footage? The Lightfoot Pack was just a breeding pair (i.e. pack of 2) in Winter 2021. They then had 5 pups in Spring 2021. In this video, there are 7 wolves (2 adults + 5 surviving pups).
This footage comes from a camera that had been out in the woods a while and we were just able to check. Pretty neat. We are still reviewing lots of footage from this past winter, which hopefully we confirm whether all 5 pups made it through the winter.
Also, since folks will almost certainly ask: we don’t know why they all got spooked in the first video and ran away. But then they came back.

Fascinating. 'What big eyes you've got Grandma! ' They seem rather nervous at times.. What are their natural predators there? Bears? Badgers? Please excuse my ignorance.. I'm not in your country.
