Wish You Were Here: Why Did Pink Floyd Set a Man on Fire?
In August of 1975, Pink Floyd released “Wish You Were Here.” This story traces the story behind the covert art and supplental artwork, from the perilous photoshoot that produced the iconic burning handshake to the photographs you’ll find inside. It also recounts the haunting moment Syd Barrett reappeared in the studio while the band worked on “Shine On You Crazy Diamond.” Along the way, Andy from Poetic Wax explores how Hipgnosis transformed album art into surreal visual poetry, weaving themes of absence, vulnerability, and disconnection into every image, showing why “Wish You Were Here” remains one of the most emotionally powerful works in rock history.

Barrett era Floyd were petty mediocre. It was Gilmour who elevated the band to greatness
