Generations before us had their drive in movie theater also malt shops to all gather at generation X we had our shopping mall to hang out at on the weekend it's sad what's happened to the mall😢 like my grandma always use to say is every generation repeats it's self in some way, things that disappear always seem to resurface years later, truly enjoy your videos and sorry to say you remind me of a handful of lil sisters my buddies had (good memories)baby powder in their hair dryer 😁 good stuff.😉

Dang so this was technically the last mall I was eve in then. in 2013 my wife had to stay in witchita at a medical facility (we are from northern Oklahoma) for 2 months. I stayed with her mostly sleeping in a chair the whole stay lol but just before I had been in a car accident and broke my glasses. Having them off was giving me daily headaches and since we had no vehicle I walked from the facility about 2 miles to this mall, mostly legally blind (I can see without glasses but it's very blurry and annoying)I found the lenscrafters, got an eye exam picked out frames and they were like "Come back in 3 hours" lol so half seeing I wandered the mall looking at what I could, seemed nice but I was also a mallrat in the 80s/90s literally grew up down the road from one in Michigan and was there more than home. But in 2013 I wandered a bit,had sushi for the first and last time..big seafood nut but raw tuna not my thing then got my glasses and had a much more safe walk back to the medical facility. I've been aware of mall decline obviously and seen videos of people going to the ones I grew up in around michigan but yeah it sucks,I feel bad for newer gens not experiencing bad music, good pretzels, giant cookies, annoying mall easter bunnies, and some of the best food courts around.

Hi Gen Z that was born and raised in Wichita. My mother never liked driving to the East mall and the West was basically a 10 minutes drive for us she would take us to the mall. I remember having so much fun going to this mall from watching movies with my dad & brother to going to vintage stock and buying video games with my mother. I'm pretty sure even my stepdad got some of his cowboy stuff here that he still uses to this day. I have so many fond memories of going to this mall (even if I didn't get to see it in it's prime) and it also helped me grow my love of video games, movies, and card collecting (pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, etc.). It hits really hard for me to see the state of it even if I saw the warning signs for it dying sooner than later anytime I would go to the mall, even when I was a child. Thank you for making this video that coincidentally stumbled onto my recommendations it really helped me remember a lot of core parts of my childhood ❤️

This makes me sad. In the 19 90's I worked at Dwyer's Hallmark and The Hourglass clock and gift shop there in Towne West. So many memories…Gone. Going to the mall was so fun back in the day pre technology. 😢

Growing up in Newton, my mom and my grandmother (who also lived in Newton with my gpa) used to go to Wichita throughout the 80's and shop at both Towne West & Towne East and so did I, years later once I got older from the late 90's onward. It's sad what has become of TW.

Aww. Worked there over two decades ago. It was hopping then. Such a ghost town now. I knew it was on its last legs for a long while but looks like the era is officially ended. Hutch mall same deal.

My husband and I take walks in our very sad local dead mall. Out of approximately 125 stores available, only 39 are open. A slumlord company called Namdar bought it back in mid 2019 and is basically running it into the ground. When we moved to our area back in 2009, it was still doing well. It's so sad to see what it has become. 😢

I love videos like this about towne west!!
As for the Vintage Stock– nothing is marked down, because they're just moving all the product to a storage unit until they move to a location in new market square. I work at the east location but we've been recruited to haul stuff off, haha.
If you get a chance to see the new location in a few months I hope you have better luck with the old game hunting! I think more people will be willing to sell secondhand things like games when it's not surrounded by a dead mall…

Thanks for the video guys. A lot of my youth was spent going to this mall. I’m sad to see it go 😢 and yes you guys are correct the men’s and women’s Dillards stores had 2 separate stores in the mall.

The mall near where I live just closed Kohl's a couple of months ago, and that was the last store at the mall. Now they're planning on tearing it down and building an Industrial Business Park over there with retail, restaurants and maybe a Wawa. And one mall that's near me is about to be torn down and become a City Center, and another just started demolishing Sears that use to be one of the anchors, and they're already planning renovations for that area and mall. Now there's only two thriving malls in Cincy, and they're use to be about about five or six of them!!! I use to love hanging out at the mall when I was a teen!!! And I had some good times there too!!! I did notice they closed more stores since the last video you two did the last time you were there. But the memories will always last forever!!!

Local Dallas viewer here I discovered this YouTube channel last night. I’m a 80’s teen and I dig everything and everyone who post content from those years.
    I really miss those the 80’s 😢

That’s so sad 😭 I tried to record some footage for myself at a dead mall in the last few months and the security guards told me I wasn’t allowed to do so.

It's been dying on the vine for years…. sad to see it go! As an Easty growing up, it was fun to go to Towne West for a change of pace. It was so sad the last time I went a few years ago 🙁

Oh malls, how we took you for granted. Your inviting free air conditioning in summer and heat in the winter. A place to kill time and enjoy with our friends, even without a penny in our pocket. The arcades, the food, and the latest fashions, oh how we miss thee.

Aw, I'm glad you made it a family affair! Nice to see Keith's dad. And I love that your daughter & SiL like to hang out with you guys!
You opened the door and I could almost feel the air conditioning. It's so rare that I go to a mall anymore. Man, we would spend hours there when we were teens!

Our mall here in Abilene TX is going fairly strong. Only one in town. Sweet sunglasses. I have silver framed Raybans and they scratch easily and I realized they are just painted silver, so I guess I could remove the paint and have frames like yours. lol Oh, also a cool Aladdin Castle tee.

I hope they dont tear the malls down. People should know to rebuild a mall these days in the same extravagant fashion would be several billion dollars. Obviously once they're gone they're not coming back.

I saw this story on the Eagle and literally thought of you two hoping you would post a video. I grew up in West Wichita (K42 and MacArthur area) and have so many great memories, many centered around Towne West, going to the arcade, Musicland/Camelot, maybe stopping at Taco Tico and seeing a movie. It was such a great mall back then. I've been in Frisco, Tx (North Dallas) for the last 25 years or so, but Kansas will always hold my heart and be home. Thanks again for your channel and keeping the Wichita spirit alive!

I grew up near the Summit Park Mall in Wheatfield NY. It was super busy in the 1970s and 80s. It now sits completely empty. It has for a few years now. A lot of great memories hanging out at that mall

Wow, the "Arby's solarium" style entrance must have been the same for all JC Penneys of that era. The Penny's at my childhood mall (Forsyth, IL) is the same. I knew it before you mentioned it. LOL
