I will never forget the Amtrak 601 derailment. I live near philadelphia and I remember the program being interupted and the news saying that a train had derailed on the frankford Curve.

I always think when I see this or "why do planes crash?" as it came off the tracks, or fell out of the sky. like what do you mean 'why'? physics! that's why.

A fine program, wide-ranging and covering both passenger and freight operations. BUT with NTSB officials being quoted: 1) Why is not train passenger safety compared to similar airline ops? AND 2) Why is not oil tank car safety compared to similar pipeline safety?

Hmmm. Why do trains crash. Oh, that's right because of unions that refuse to allow themselves to replaced by obviously superior automation. At the cost of other people's lives.
