I don’t care how shiny your Pokémon card is, I don’t respect it. But I will buy it.

    Pro-tips for getting into Magic:

1: Get a play group full of friends and free-time that take the whole price and realism of the cards super-unseriously. My group would proxy cards just to get to play, and it would signal other players what real cards to get them for their birthdays or whatnot.

2: Make sure the people are okay at learning, teaching, and getting beaten. There is nothing worse than a player that magically knows when and where everyone meets only to come and be a sore loser and winner.

3: Collaborate with your group to do fun-themes every now and then to keep the interest. The proxies really come in handy here cause you can make decks on the fly. Do budget deck challenges or 2v2, really fun.

4: Shit-talk scalpers any chance you get.

Honestly the people who actually enjoy the hobbies don’t make it bad, the scalpers and resellers and business venturers and content creators do. Collectors don’t usually buy in bulk and make stuff shit for everyone.. rather they keep the ecosystem going slowly but surely

3:45 I had a baseball tabletop card game. It was where I got my first D20. The game was boring as hell and I never got any booster packs, if they even made them, so I only ever played with the base set. But it was neat to see baseball cards with actual card game mechancis and stats, rather than just pictures of dudes.

I teach elementary in Japan and the kida are always saying that they try to buy Pokemon cards, as they legit love to play it, but they are always pushed aside by the 'henna ojisan'-s (creepy uncles, loosely translated) who buy up the packs.
    Pretty gross, honestly.

I actually started playing Magic when I was 12 or so and loved the game. It’s too expensive now so I’ve switched to Pokemon cards and honestly the game is fun and pretty easy to learn if you’ve played MTG

I ordered 2 japanese McDonald's Pokemon promo packs off TCG player but I only received 1. I only received 1 so I tried to do the return process cause I really wanted 2 so I could keep one sealed. But, it was unreturnable so they just refunded me. They wouldnt let me send it back so I got a 30 dollar pack with 2 cards in it for free lol

Tugg, can confirm, I would listen to you talk about literally anything. You could talk about the history of aluminum and ill be here.
Edit: also gotta say cigarettes were shockingly accessible to children back in the day

For all the scummy-ness TCG companies can display, isolating the highest price, "chase" pieces to Collector packs is actually a good thing. Because it helps (to an extent) to insulate regular players from the folks spending huge money on collecting. While funnily enough providing a superior product for the people who specifically like opening packs for their dopamine hits.

Pretty much the goal of Collector boosters is to allow them to get in on providing super rare, specialty-treatment cards without ending up in the same situation as Pokemon.

Hello, I'm someone who exclusively plays the Pokémon TCG. Honestly, the PTCG gets a bad rep for being "hard to learn," but it's actually really easy once you know how to play and what you're doing, and there is so much room for building new decks that match your play style. But scalpers do ruin it for a lot of people, because most people who want to start playing/collecting Pokémon TCG either have to pay above MSRP, which can cost an arm and a leg, or have to beat the scalpers to the cards before they all sell out. 🥲

I collect these Broadway trading cards and I know that I gain no benefit from them because I have to wait a week for them to be shipped from New York just for them to be duplicates

I love mtg but I grew up with Pokémon and I know it’s an unpopular opinion but I really do prefer the art style that Pokémon has and the different world building. It’s just whimsical and fun (forget about the manga). While mtg is just a complicated glorified card game that mainly focuses on the game not collection. They have less cool cards and a different design. I don’t collect for money I collect for entertainment.

Po-kay-mon. Po.. KAY… mon. You look my age and not my parents age so it feels silly having to explain it, but that's how you pronounce pokémon. Stop saying "pokey-mon" as if you don't see that accent over the e

I love playing MTG and Pokemon, but hate that it has basically become an investment or a business if you're into collecting them. F Capitalism that wants to make everything into a business and something to make money out of it. I just want to play and collect, not having to worry about what my cards cost so I can exchange them nor get zero access to the ones I want because they're mad expensive.
I hate that tcgs have become this. They don't allow you to enjoy your hobby.
