Why Samsung’s Transparent Phone will fail.

Mrwhosetheboss | September 8, 2025

Samsung IS working on a transparent smartphone. That much we’re sure about. But I’m almost certain it will fail, for ONE reason…

Yay. I cant wait for augmented reality glasses so that I get popups and unskippable ads while driving.
the last thing I want is unskippable ads in everyday life

Regarding the Augmented Reality problem with perspective, I don't actually believe transparent screens will solve this problem; in fact I believe they'd make it worse! The issue is the difference of perspective between your eyes and your phone's camera… but the phone's camera is the only information your phone has available to augment anyway! If you had a special locator sensor close to your eyes, then that could be factored in (and even that falls apart if anyone else looks at the screen)… but otherwise you would just have a real world seen transparently through the screen, and then a skewed-perspective AR superimposed in a way that is completely incomprehensible. And this is worse for understanding than if the real world background was also in the skewed perspective, at least that way you can locate the AR objects relative to the image.

Obviously the only solution to this is the VR headset route, maybe in a Google Glass form factor or sth. And yes, transparent displays would probably be useful there… I'm pretty sure I've seen them discussed in that context tho & why it wouldn't work, but maybe that was just bc the tech didn't exist yet.

5:10 Lol, that's only an argument against transparent phone's because this only works via the cam giving the software data to use and not having 0 environmenta data because it only exists irl and not in your phone because the transparent case doesn't record anything.

VR is 100% fake and data and that's why it can work, it couldn't do much if it was instead merely a tiny piece of actual screen on what are otherwise regular glasses made from regular glass or plastic.

3:30 But it's just a gimmick like the Nintendo DS.

Maybe Nintendo might be able to base a dedicated mobile gaming device around this but for a phone which you primarily use to do other things and play regular games on it's just getting in the way of 99% if what you normally do.

Nothing screams sci-fi like transparent handheld devices.
That's because they are cool in sci-fi but utterly pointless irl.

We are at the point where a lot of the actually useful sci-fi stuff is becoming reality so there is really no point in chasing after the dumb crap that only looks good on screen but is useless irl.

    Greetings from germany.
Transparent machines are stupid. My TV is mounted to a wall holder. So if i could see thru my TV, i would see the holder. And the distance keeping parts and the screws. So, why whould i want to see that? Same for phones. I don't want to see my hands, and sorry, how should this work? A see thru case like the Game boy had, ok, but how do you make battery, cables, speakers etc see thru?
I would prefer AR glasses over a see thru phone.

Other thoughts, if they invent the Kiroshi eyes from Cyberpunk, i am one of the first buyers…
I am in my mid 40s, and the eye problems caused by age have started. I get more and more farsighted.

I think a better idea would be to have a very wide angle campers and just feed that onto the background, instead of trying to figure out how to make things transparent

0:43 a transparent phone is a stupid idea what happens if it slips under a couch or into a drain pipe and that's not even mentioning that your phone has stuff in it which I find hard to believe will become invisible a better way to implement this would be home controls since we are entering a time where homes are becoming smart the only examples I can think of is the tempathre dials with the displays the fridges with displays and toasters with displays so I think you can have like a few transparent screens attached to walls which show the time when you walk by using cameras either built in or installed nearby and when you tap on the screen then it gives you options just like a tablet where there would be different icons where you could control your ecosystem in the home so there would be your Samsung wall mount and your Samsung microwave your Samsung heating and cooling your Samsung window shades your Samsung fridge and your Samsung locks each device would have its own icon on the wall peice so you can adjust your temperature you can check on your toast you can see what's expired in the fridge which parts are faulty in the fridge and change the temperature of the frige and freezer you can lock your fridge for whatever reason then you'll be able to ping your TV remote when it gets lost or set up parental controls for the TV from this wall device

I think it’s a bad idea, because if someone were to drop one it would just look like the ground. When it comes to the A.I glasses, no thank you. I don’t want a computer on my face.

Would only work if they found a way to properly display an opaque background that can be used by default and transparency enabled by apps when needed. Eg. Camera mode, AR or just for fun. If they solve all the kinks including durability I can see it being a thing.

It is four years old I don’t know why it’s coming up on my feet cause I’ve most likely watched this already it sounds familiar but I don’t think that 100% transparent phones is the way to use that technology maybe a transparent huge wall Siri or Alexa that only has Mostly what you do with it is music maybe you do your grocery list other various lists like tasks around the house basically nothing that you do on your phone that you have to look at things that you use that assistant to help you with or things that you do when you’re not looking at Like when you’re cleaning you listen to music but for the phone maybe just the side components are see-through and everything inside is see-through I don’t know I don’t know why you would wanna carry on a phone if it’s already hard to look at the screen in the sunlight right now it would be even harder if it was transparent it would be next to impossible the only way that a transparent phone would be good is if we were living underground with no light it just doesn’t make sense for it to be your phone but to be an Alexa that makes sense have it up on your wall and when you’re not using it it doesn’t do anything if you’re using it it’s doing something or oh that would be even cooler yeah When people send your location like I don’t know sometimes it’s nice when your husband sends you their location so you can watch them drive home to you after picking up the groceries or whatever just like to have that feeling of togetherness when you’re not actually together at the moment some people have relationships like that so like it could be on the wall and while you’re getting dinner ready and you only need a couple items that he got you’re like preppingthe vegetables and defying the meat and you just every now and then look over and see oh he’s on W. 3rd St. or something like that I don’t know

Well, here come the 1 inch bezels on phones… And also, it's great we'll have phones with even harder to see screens when in lit areas, lol. Transparent batteries? Yeah… As with 100s of other battery ideas that never make it out of R&D.
