The North Koreans We Never See – Everyday Life in the World’s Strangest Country: https://youtu.be/uat3DCGW2SQ

An undercover investigation exposes how North Korea secretly sends thousands of its own citizens overseas as forced laborers. Following a defector who risks his life to infiltrate a remote Malaysian coal mine, the documentary uncovers evidence that modern slavery is helping finance one of the world’s most repressive regimes.

What I never understand is why tv teams or documentary makers never bring some big guys or bodyguards with them if they know that it could lead to a confrontation with these north Koreans. Bring a 2 meter tall and strong guy and those north Koreans wouldn't dare to take that camera

This is not unusual. Brazil once had a program called "Mais Médicos" (More doctors), when Cuban professionals highly skilled in Medicine (although not graduated as doctors) were sent to work in areas of Brazil where native doctors had no interest in working in, and they were not paid directly because the Cuban government did not allow them to. The Brazilian government paid a high salary for their service but through an international entity called OPAS, that passed the money directly to the Cuban government. OPAS stands for the Organização Pan-Americana da Saúde (Pan American Health Organization or PAHO), which is the oldest international public health agency in the world. Fortunetly this Mais Médicos program has been ended for some years now. Is it, or isn't it slave work???

Why walk into their 'dormitory' unannounced like that with a huge camera? Just because they're enslaved by their regime you can ignore their right to privacy?

Apart from that, interesting doc of a despicable situation.

Sounds almost if Kim's family made the decision to sacrifice themselves to try help North Korea changing, when speaking about his family's outcome from his escape he almost seemed to be thinking more of those who live and have lived and will live that fate, as if it soothed his pain to think their sacrifice helps all of it to end to his people. In this scenario her wife saying those words might've been the way possible to tell him their son died, asking their tormenters to torment him. That would also explain his fearless albeit calm conviction. Apparently the safest place for a NK defector is in SK, maybe because only there would an assassination like this would be a war crime as opposed to an international killing.

It probably wasn't a smart decision to carry a huge camera with them into the sleeping quarters of the workers. The main hostility seemed to stem from that fact and escalated further on from there
