The Canadian public will vote yes to distancing themselves from the monarchy but the ultimate decision lays with the Parliament. The thing is that as soon as a low doing this passes all of those voters will change their minds and miss the way things were, so it is better to keep the status quo and not do anything appreciable.

As a Brit who is also a Republican, I support Canada and other nations ditching the crown. I would be lying though, if I didn’t say any kind of structures that continue to unite the “democratic world” even if a little will be sad to see go, if not replaced. I think recent events demonstrate how we need to work together to protect the shared values we hold most dear of all. I’d love to see something like “CANZUK” but I don’t know if it’s all feasible. I detest America’s threats to Canada and other nations sovereignty and while we cannot military challenge the US in the current era, together we can hopefully pressure and influence to protect the rules based international order for all of our benefit.

Your videos definitely help the cause. Newcomers, like me, can take a position of not getting involved about this affairs due to lack of understanding. After several years of paying taxes and obtaining my citizenship, I wanted to learn more about Canadian politics. Your videos really took me by the hand and fast tracked the process. They are an invitation to get involved and support good initiatives. Closing ties with a monarchy being one of them. I'm sure what you are doing are building blocks for a change for the better in this beautiful country.

Barbados became a republic without a referendum. The 'country' is in effect a one-party state. It runs down Britain and the West – but it wouldn't exist without its tourists.

Many of the most progressive, open, democratic, liberal-thinking countries in the world are monarchies: Sweden, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, and yes, Canada and New Zealand, whilst you have to ask yourself how the Land of the Free has managed to fuck up so very spectacularly.

The big shift in the monarchy debat would be if the existence of Canada would be threatened by a neighbouring bully. Monarchy makes Canada very very very different to the USA.

I think that in the year since this was made, there is a great anger directed at the United States. The implied threat of making Canada the "51st State," is an implied threat and also adds insult to injury by erasing provincial borders!
I think that this throws any attempt to abolish the monarchy years back, as there is no appetite for looking more like the U.S. at the moment!

Leave monarchy alone. It is supportive of democracy, not undermining it. What kind of Canadian Republic? Like that of USA? You have got to be kidding!

If Canada really lead a parade of one, then I think that doing so will cast light onto the situation: When there are exactly two parties and one of them is inferior in treatment to the other, there is nothing to hide the inequality behind – the disparity is totally clear.

I think Canadians need to really dive into their history and learn why the Father's of Confederation chose to make Canada a constitutional monarchy, there was definitely a reason for that 😉

The monarchy is there to prevent politicians from acquiring too much power and the politicians are there to stop the monarchy from interfering. It is a pretty balance I guess and remember that no country can prevent a Putin like figure to take over a country unless there is a constitutional monarch to stop the individual as a last resort. Both Hitler and Stalin made sure there was no monarch to stop them from their evil deeds and Canada should not think it is impossible to reach that stage in the future. This is why all armed forces pledge allegiance to the King and not the flag or Canada to prevent the rise of any dictatorship.

The United States of America, nor Canada are technically "democracies".
USA is a "Constitutional Republic", while Canada is a "Constitutional Monarchy".
Do you have a video comparing the differences?

I grew up in a very conservative rural area of Ontario and my high school literally held a luncheon for Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee that we all got half a day off to attend. We watched the royal wedding at school, we sang God Save the Queen on Remembrance Day, and we did a number of other insanely monarchist things that drove me absolutely crazy. I guess for context, I also watched Obama (but not Harper) get elected on a projector at school, so it didn't really feel motivated by anti-American sentiment to me at the time. My theory has sort of been that since the Lord's Prayer was disallowed in Ontario schools, certain districts really leaned into the whole "please remain standing for a moment of reflection" and "God Save the Queen" type stuff because God is adjacent.. though that's probably an overly simplistic take on things.

Nice monarchy polls there without a "Don't Care" option, run it again with that and see what results you get. Anyways, just look at America and see what happens when you don't have that "high degree of pageantry and grandness" involved in government. You get constant lack of respect and civility which is already seeping into Canada when you look at the rise of physical and verbal abuse directed at politicians nowadays. Thankfully, there's not yet a disgusting Canadian Trump figure anywhere in charge because the "elites" have kept such types out of their ranks.
