Thank you all for watching, I've been dying to make this for a bit. Even if you think defending Joker 2 makes me a dumb dumb, I hope you enjoy watching all the same 🙂

(Also I mention it in the video but I'll say it again here: a version of this video with longer music sections and some extra thoughts is on Nebula. Link's in the description if you want to check that out!)

I knew Arthur Fleck was too easily satisfied to ever pull off a grand plan like Joker since the first Joker movie came out. I expected that even if Arthur becomes Joker, he would disappoint his supporters and Harley, and lead them to abandon him. And Joker 2 kind of aligned with my expectations.
I don't think Todd Phillips intentionally gave a middle finger to his audience. That's just who Arthur is from the get-go. Still, you can't blame the audience for having expectations.
It is crazy that even though Arthur flat-out said he wasn't political and hadn't started the movement, many people in real life still wore clown makeup for protests.
And I loved the intro made by Sylvain Chomet!

Yup. Just saw the movie for the first time and honestly thought the movie was pretty good and I felt I understood some key creative decisions. I spoke to gpt about it and went looking for a video essay that was pro joker 2.

    This was my thesis:
Joker: Folie à Deux is not asking whether the Joker is crazy-it's asking what happens when a society turns a broken person into a symbol and then demands that symbol function without the human inside it. Arthur's delusions are not the source of the tragedy; abstraction is. Once celebrity turns him into an idea, his interior reality stops mattering, his pain becomes consumable, and his survival becomes optional. This is what false power looks like: it consolidates attention by flattening complexity, and when the human beneath the symbol can no longer sustain it, the system doesn't adapt—it discards him. The film isn't about madness. It's about what a world does to people when it would rather mythologize suffering than distribute care.

Justice for Alex Pretti and Renée Good. Fuck ICE

I just watched the movie again and I couldn't agree more what Tarantino said on Joker 2, Todd Phillips is the real Joker and his movie is a F-WORD you to Hollywood and to the movie audience "us". Then, we're in front of a misunderstood masterpiece, besides I enjoyed listening to every musical sequence from Joker 2 when I saw it twice.

It’s not. It was barely watchable. I left halfway through. It may have committed one of the worst crimes a movie can make like this which to be boring. I was shocked at how a movie so dark was so boring.

It's always funny when people try to defend something that the creators themselves intentionally screwed up. At that point, you're no different than the people at art galleries acting pretentious.

mic the snare you remain my favourite youtuber because where else would i get such poignant, thoughtful and well-worded analysis of a film i've never watched but everyone in my life told me was terrible, and come out of it feeling weirdly touched?

In Joker we watched Arthur invent many sinarious that were pure imagination. I belive Joker 2 follows the same premiss. When we see the joker bleeding to death on the prison floor, in my opinion none of the movie we watched actually took place, it was all in Arthur's mind as his life flashed before him as he was dying. That's sad

I defended this movie since I've watched it for the first time. I hate musicals but this movie is a huge exception for me as it continues the first movie in the way that a sequel should continue from the first movie. I think both movies are masterpieces

You can tell it’s a great musical because all 13 songs are about the exact same thing and not a single one of them progresses the plot or had any element that was at all unique from the others, truly the sign of a good musical.

Arthur Fleck is the Joker in disguise. He is the locked up alter-ego like Clark Kent. Arthur-Fleck Arkham-Reflection. "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled off was convincing the world that he didn't exist." "Ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?" Hes basically Joe Kerr from Batman: Giong Sane. I'm really suprise more comic book fans dont see this. The joker is always disguising himself.

"Being the Joker… probably SUCKS." That is the best summation and most appreciative comment of this movie I have ever seen in a measly five words

Because yes, that is correct. Suffering and being treated terribly by society probably sucks. Being down on your luck with less friends and saving connections probably sucks. Being the Joker probably sucks… 😉
