Why Israelis and Palestinians both claim Jerusalem

Vox | March 2, 2026

The U.S. embassy to Israel has moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Here’s how this sacred city factors into a conflict 70 years old.

When President Trump’s administration announced the move in 2017, it also officially recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. And while Israeli leaders celebrated, Palestinians denounced the move.

That’s because both Israelis and Palestinians consider Jerusalem as their rightful capital. Jerusalem is home to important holy sites for all the Abrahamic religions, and so it has become a critical bargaining chip in the ongoing discussion between the two sides.

    As of 2025, the whole world knows who's to blame 🇮🇱 🇺🇸 🇪🇺 🇬🇧
Most Gen Z in the US now supports the 🥷 group in Gaza (according to Harvard Harris Poll), the vast majority of Europeans are now pro-palestine, even many of the right wing (because they fear Palestinian immigrants will legitimately be here. Legitimately because they'll be forced to go to the EU by EU arms sold to israel).
Every week, one NATO country is recognising Palestine.
Epstein files are being exposed as Israeli operations that blackmails every US congressman, AIPAC is also being exposed.
Time will come when Israel becomes isolated and desperate

never was a palestine, the koran has no mention of Jerusalem. you lie. The Israelis wanted to share, the Arabs want it all. Not true, no holy sites for islam, only the mosque that they built on the destroyed Israeli Temple. Mohammed had never been to Jerusalem. It is now questioned if he ever even existed.
