    What's funny about the tropic thunder black face is that I saw the movie when I was younger on tv so I didn't catch the beginning and I didn't know who RDJ was so I didn't know he was doing black face.

    being a black trans fan of this show is certainly an interesting experience but I love the fuck out of IASIP. I got probably 3 minutes into The Gang Turns Black before I skipped it 😂 I'll give it another shot soon. I didn't know there were episodes cut for until after I finished my 1st watch so I'm working my way through em now that I know they exist

    Because it's the best damn show to watch. Fuck what anyone says. If you can have a moment like Charlie realizing his dad wasn't there for him in a show that takes jabs at everyone, keep it on the air.

    Dude as a black man, "the gang turns black" is so high concept and musically genius. Me and my sister watched the Sunny show since day one and Charlie being black coded/ comfortable with black folks was so genuine to us. The gang took it to the next level with their episode inspired by the wiz. Mac and Dennis trying to navigate the various black stereotypes was also hilarious. Trust me we felt seen by that episode, not offended

    Real quick on the black face, I just recently re-watched Mad Men, hadn't watched it in years. There's an episode where Roger Sterling puts shoe polish on his face and sings to his former secretary who he left his wife to marry, because she "Thought it was hilarious when he did it for her at home". This is at a wedding in front of everyone. The episode was not removed, or even the scene edited out. I understand that maybe people let this slide a bit more because its a time piece and its trying to show how some controversial things were just accepted at the time because they were somewhat culturally normal. Like doctors smoking cigarettes around a pregnant woman coming in for a check up, like literally in the examination room. Or pregnant women drinking alcohol when they look like theyre in their third trimester. But I still think the whole point in Sunny whenever they did it, was literally to show how inept, unaware, and obscene these characters are. The whole point is that these characters are horrible people, blackface is bad, and the fact that these characters think its ok to do it without even questioning it highlights how socially unaware and insensitive they are. I dont think its celebrating or idealizing it in anyway, so I dont think those episodes should be scrubbed. The lethal weapon episodes are hilarious and losing them entirely from streaming platforms feels kind of crappy. Im not trying to defend it, I get that ots problematic, I just think the context makes it clear that it is supposed to be offensive, and the black face is not what's funny, but the irony that these people are doing it in a time where it is widely understood that it is problematic. Just my take.

    I feel the same way about tropic thunder. The blackface isn't funny, its that this super serious method actor thought it was a good idea to do it in the first place.

    You said "with few exceptions the characters are all despicable people". I think its ironic that one of the few exceptions, Dennis and does biological father, who's character is super charitable and generous/selfless etc; turned out to be a pedophile IRL.

    As a black man I have to say if the MCU ever recasts War Machine they should have RDJ play him.

    Also I was not offended even remotely watching tropic thunder. And most of the ones you showed in the video other than Jimmy Fallon were making fun of people who wear blackface and I really don’t care. It doesn’t have to be funny for me to be okay with it.

    It’s when the black face is making fun of black people where I’m annoyed.

    My head cannon on it’s always Sunny is Mac and Charlie’s wouldn’t be bad people if they were never friends with Dee, Dennis and Frank. They’d still be neurotic and traumatized due to their upbringing, but you can see moral compasses with those two every now and then, where the Reynolds’s are just the worst people ever and never redeeming.

    In many ways, Charlie and Mac were the Reynolds first victims of the classic ‘It’s always sunny’ decent into being a terrible person that the Lawyer, the Waitress, and Cricket later go through.

    to me it's funny the black face episodes are banned because legit the latest season is so vile. the dog race episode is so gross and disgusting and I love how awful these people are lmao
