Why is everyone suddenly neurodivergent?

AsapSCIENCE | June 3, 2026

What is REALLY causing the increase in autism diagnosis since the early 1990s? Is it pollution? Is it plastics? Is it Tylenol? Is it screen time? Today we explain the up to date science and research, because right now people are trying to claim that Tylenol use during pregnancy is the main reason.

This information is important as ASD has been increasing in recent years, but science and research has answers outside of one specific claim. It is important that we share this video, and people understand the real cause of increased ASD diagnoses, and also why focusing on ONE CAUSE is not the real issue here.

Autism is pure bullshit, for lame people with nothing to offer the world, to label themselves to feel more special than they are.

Its mostly just caused by being poorly raised.

In other cases, its just shitty parents trying to steal special attention from accomplishments their children make.

A kid is a prodigy at algebra by 10 years old? ….well he's "Autistic".

    They can't just say :

    "Well he's just really profoundly good at this subject, because he has a deep fascination with it, and has done a lot of studying;

and so, therefore, he's better at it than I am.".

Its mostly just shitty parents who had kids on accident, wanting special recognition for it, and don't want their own kid stealing their spotlight.

Answer: They are not. They jsut say it because it's trendy nowadays. And psychology is a scam anaways, they always lower the bar of what is considered autism.

i agree the testing for Autism is the most likely rise of diagnosis. the increased awareness i have leads me to believe i am likely on the spectrum myself – will be requesting diagnoses from doctor, just for interests sake as i'm a grandma now.

You’re not wrong about influencing dynamics and routines. It’s important to note that it really is hard to compare these things to a measured society that undergoes ongoing change, with intent. From all directions of change, we can only measure a new variable that’s only independently measurable. Aka, what you said yourself; some of them flat line. And new data comes to light while still only having specific components that are comparable essentially with respect to the original statistic…cannot be a direct comparison or correlation between these things specifically. Which is unfortunate because we want to find connections as scientists. That is just not idea OR its overwhelmingly fast and unreliable in data overtime unless time has already passed. Sincerely an autistic person. Bye! ✌🏻

The diagnosis rate where I am is 340% above the predicted upper limit.

At the same time, private clinics that diagnose people for 2-3,000$ are emergency shut down because their service is, quote "poor and dangerous".

It seems to me that autism is increasing at a very fast rate nowadays. I also think that prenatal vitamins or supplements that women take during pregnancy might play a role in this.

My paternal grandfather was born in 1942. He was never diagnosed, but when I was diagnosed autistic (well, aspergers but now autism) as a kid he said something like "well it can't be me, i have [number of autistic traits] and [adhd traits], but it can't be from me! Pure blood, we are!"
He eventually accepted that he was (jautistic (and he probably has ADHD). In the course of years, my father, my younger brother and I have all been diagnosed with ADHD; my brother exhibits autistic traits but he doesn't really think getting an adult diagnosis would impact him much now (and a maternal cousin has ADHD too.

    1. Autistic & ADHD people were always around, they just weren't diagnosed.
    2. Autism & ADHD have a high co-occurence rate (50-70 percent!) – so if you have one, it's worth doing an online screen to see if you might have the other so you can get accommodations
    3. It's very genetic
    4. We're all doing well enough, it's not a death sentence & shouldn't be treated like 'charities' like autism speaks do. If you really want to help, check out self-advocacy charities like ASAN (autism self-advocacy network).

    1. The diagnostic criteria of autism have become so loose that the boundary between autism and what is considered normal resembles a line drawn in water. 2. Massive public interest, especially among young women and mothers, in the explanatory potential of an autism diagnosis. Having grown up in a highly individualistic culture, people are primed to look for explanations in individual psychology, as opposed to social conditions. 3. Autistic identity politics and the paradoxical nature of modern social tolerance. Individual differences are tolerated and even celebrated, but only insofar as they are conceptualised as psychiatric identities. Being a nerdy introvert is fine as long as you agree to be pigeon-holed as autistic.

I understand the fear of overdiagnosing, but at the same time, it doesnt hurt to explore and understand“weirdness” among the population- there is something spiritually healing about it- because its quite difficult to accept people as they are when you dont understand what theyre goinf through and i truly believe that as more people feel “accepted and understood” the less a society becomes fixated on superficial things like wealth and prestige which drives cruelty in this world. I mean, how many rich megalomaniacs who hate people would exist if they actually felt accepted and loved from the beginning?

Your video confirms a suspicion I had about so many people claiming they had autism but I saw zero symptoms.

I consume long-form content so I can see habits of people more clearly than would be visible or apparent in a short.

I really see zero symptoms of autism in people claiming they have it.

So what your vid confirmed for me – women and girls are recently getting diagnosed more than male counterparts because autism is the new hysteria. Every single woman I follow who produces long-form content is anti-establishment and anti-patriarchial and anti-capitalist and each of them were told that they have autism.

This is just another way of othering women who don't conform.

Second thing, when you showed the timeline of frequency of diagnosis, you said that post-WW2 period, diagnosis criteria was a child having a single interest.

Considering what I have always warned Americans about their deteriorating education system, this sounds to me like they were targeting kids who had focus.

I understand obsession and fixation. Focus is different from that.

Your country's autism obsession is nonsensical and dangerous. Please, I am begging Americans to stop thinking they're wierd just because they care for doing things the right way, they care that others enjoy a good quality of life too, they don't wish to conform to silly societal trends and norms that come and go, for questioning the status quo, for being curious, for wanting to enjoy life.

None of these things are weird. You are normal and whole.

I believe there's also a malicious interest in this too.
In america I'd be diagnosed with autism
But I would be diagnosed as a normal person everywhere else.
Not just that but these small variants of autism are so worthless that it does more harm than good, because now poor Timmy is forced into a group just because he likes Legos.
This also breeds a billion idiots who make it their personality and yell at you if you questioned them

I think the understanding and better diagnosis is most likely to contribute to increase. The cause is probably genetics and/or inflammation in the brain. That is why for example vitamine D and olive/coconut oil can be helpful or other things that calm the nervus system down. Some studies have shown a higher content of aluminium in the brain in people with autism (which were in vaccins in the past and sometimes still are).

Female, diagnosed just before turning 70… I grew up in an age when being neurospicey wasn't even a thing… you were just the weird kid, the bad kid, the kid hiding in the back of the class with your nose in a book.

    Love your channel, KEEP EDUCATING!

You are born autistic, ADHD is afflicted, both probably have genetic "pre-dispositions" but as always, isn't chisled stone, just a stat modifier of sorts: roll for trauma turning into ADHD with a +5 modifier, roll d20–ooh, just missed it, lucky roll.

Autism is a type of brain damage caused by pre-natal malnutrition (we'll get to this later). Genetics likely effects how tolerant the brain is for being starved of critical nutrients at various stages of growth likely including after birth as well.

Why does autism 'often' co-occur with ADHD? Simple, ADHD is a result of trauma; what's more traumatic than untreated, undiagnosed autism? Abuse, neglect, shame, ostracisation, anger, depression–all absorbed by the autistic child resulting in ADHD. However, all the aforementioned traumas are not unique to autistic children, hence it can easily occur in neurotypical brains as well.

Autism is the latest affliction in the cluster of diseases associated with insulin resistance i.e. similar to obesity, diabetes, dementia, etc.

Root cause: the developing brain not getting enough high quality nutrients, specifically protein and fat. It's both a quantity and quality issue: in modern times we have replaced high quality, easily absorbable animal proteins with cheap (e.g. more profitable) plant proteins and high quality (literally a literature term denoting the usability of a nutrient by the human body) animal fats with cheap, profitable (deja-vu?) industrial seed oils.

Think back to the late 70s, early 80s during the "low fat" craze. What did industry do almost over night? Reduce (quality) protein as much as possible (protein is the least profitable macronutrient being difficult to store for long periods without degredation), use cheaper more profitable industrial seed oils but again, minimize it to save on cost, and fill in the 'taste' gap left by the lack of fats with cheap, dopamine stimulating sugar and white flour. Literally no such thing as an essential carbohydrate–look it up.

How does this explain autism throughout history and in modern times where populations are poor? What happens during famine? Meat (protein) disappears first, then fat, then all is left is subsidized white flour and sugar–bread and water. Or some variation of that picture.

All that explains why autism has been around for all of human history, starve the body starve the mind, starving pregnant women more likely to birth brain damaged autistic children. Today, similar story with a now majority of society gorging on high sugar, low quality plant protein, industrial seed oil drenched junk food. Same outcome.

Another factor is breastfeeding mothers often obese themselves thus suffering from the same malnutrition passing it along to their children. Add formula feeding (nothing but starch, sugar and seed oils) and you have a diabesity and autism epidemic all crashing together at the same time.

Solution? Go back to eating single or low ingredient list whole foods from mostly animal sources. What civilization did for 300,000 years before industrialization around the 19th century, a point up to which autism, obesity, and ADHD were exceedingly rare, occurrences rising from time to time during wars or famines.

    You're welcome.

Everyone I know who has an autistic child, that is not genetic… all had UTI (unary tract infection) in the second trimester.
Early = more severe, later in second trimester = less severe.

Yeah just keep forking over that dough forever until we "find" it LMAO. Btw approximately $500 million EVERY YEAR is spent researching "the cause" of autism but they just can't seem to figure it out! LMAOOOO
