I left the US in 2015 and it was the best decision of my life. I earn $1200 per month teaching English online and live much more comfortable and happy in Albania than I did making $5k per month in California. You don't need to be wealthy to move abroad, you need to be creative and flexible. I had a job in law back in California and had to navigate to teaching kids English.

damn, I'm glad you got out. I started trying to leave in 2017, but realized quickly at my age it wasn't really an option. My familial roots in this country go back way too far to do anything like you did. Now I'm disabled too, which makes getting out even more difficult because countries want able bodied citizens for work. I fled from South Carolina to Washington, at least, but goddamn if Seattle isn't a scary place now. With my mobility problems, I can't begin to tell you how scary it is cause I'm in a wheelchair.

Congratulations and wishing you and your family a beautiful life in your new country! I wish I and my family could move too! Perhaps one day. We will see…

    Welcome to Europe!
Also, do not feel bad for moving while still having a channel about US politics. If anything, it may give you the freedom to speak freely about topics you might have self-censored about while still there. It may also give you new insights and comparison points, and new perspectives that you have previously not been exposed to.

Coward. No problem was ever made better by running from it. I'm glad your stepchild will get to grow up in a safer place, but what about every other child of this godforsaken country? I get that you feel you have to take care of you and yours, but the fascists are still here, they aren't going anywhere! And now, we have one less friend in the fight.

i admit im surprised by this, as i think i remember watching a video of yours where you argued for the “stay and fight” philosophy rather than running (emigrating) for safety. that said, of course everyone reserves the right to change their opinions over time, and of course youre included in that. and i really cant blame you for wanting out!! ive thought about immigrating to ireland specifically myself, though at the moment im planning on staying for a multitude of reasons. im really happy you were able to make the best decision for you and your loved ones 🩷 but, all of THAT said, id be lying if i said seeing this video didnt give me a bad feeling. it hits different to see people actively fleeing.

OMG Leejah, I'm just a stranger on the internet but I am so happy and excited for you! I hope the beauty of Ireland and its wonderful people restore your energies and reserves of kindness and generosity which we know are deep, watching your fight via your work in these videos. Emigrating is losing bits of yourself but in the way that plants split off to propagate and continue to prosper. I hope you and your family enjoy all the good stuff and are able to grow from and adapt to anything else <3

You have to be comfortable taking a breath. That is the lowest bar there is. I hope you and your family can thrive and be whomever you want to be.

I understand why you chose Ireland. It is a culture that I truly enjoy. After centuries under the English, they have a wry snark that cuts in the funniest way.

When I've thought of where I would go if I ever left my home country,…I don't get a clear answer. The plus/minus math never compels me strongly enough. I respect your courage.

I also respect the way you give back and help others on their journey in life. Good on you.

One of the big reasons I have watched your channel (being a criminal defense attorney and former public defender myself) was your willingness to put yourself and your privilege (white, lawyer, dual citizen, intelligent, articulate, etc.) on the line by bravely speaking publicly about political issues while living in Minneapolis, a real and symbolic center for many of the things that this country is doing wrong and the resistance to it.

I found what you were doing to be incredibly brave and heartening and your physically being at the one of the metropolitan hearts of this struggle lent so much weight and credibility to your points about the class war and standing up against repression and building community. Even when those points at times turned somewhat preachy or into plain repetitive diatribes, I would continue to listen knowing that you were putting your actual self on the line. It was inspiring to me.

And then a two week vacation turned into a permanent expatriatism (when I typed that word out I spelled it “ex patriotism” which gave me a bitter chuckle).

I’m glad there seem to be so many of your viewers who support your very personal decision. Everyone who takes risks in the interests of others (and I’m sure your motives were sincere) deserves support and empathy and this couldn’t have been easy for you, as a person. I also understand that you, as a person, need to make your own choices in your own best interests and that I don’t know, and can never really know, what is going on in your personal experience.

But with so many people sending comments of support and seeing none (in my brief scan of the top 20-30 comments) to the contrary, I felt compelled to leave a different kind of response to this news.

A big part of me feels like this is a betrayal of what your channel (and thereby, you as a public intellectual/political figure) has come to stand for. Especially considering your content is heavy on activist rhetoric and lacking in the deep philosophical political theory or even legal theory compared to other creators in the same space. Using your privilege as an intelligent, young, attorney to establish a platform in the US advocating activism against the repressive government and wealthy class only to then leave the country where you can safely continue to build the platform, rail against the US government and capitalism, urge other Americans to acts of protest, resistance, and collective action, while continuing to hawk Regan T-shirts and peddle “sell care devices” kind of gives me the ick knowing that you’re doing all that from the safety of the other side of an ocean, not to mention that this has been the plan for quite some time/all along(?)

Im glad for you personally that you were able to utilize your 1% status as an attorney and your inherited dual citizenship to extricate yourself from a situation that you have come to believe is personally dangerous to yourself. (Never mind that your channel advocating activism and resistance to a tyrannical government is absolutely the biggest factor in creating that danger) and that you now get to breathe a bit and unclench. But as a public figure and advocate for social justice and legal rights, both human and political, I think this irreparably damages what I can only now call your “product branding”.

I sincerely wish you peace and success in your new chapter but I can’t say I will look forward to your videos at this point as I feel a bit like I’ve been had. Maybe I’ll feel differently with some perspective and distance but I’ll be unsubscribing for now.

    Sincerely,

A former viewer and continuing 1%er who is still in the trenches of the USA.

I'm on the spectrum I live in Florida and I'm armed. My bedroom wall looks like the basement in Tremors and I keep myself armed in public and on my bike and my car. It's not really the best way to live you are correct.

WTH? Follow Bernie's Anti-Oligarchy U.S Democratic Socialists Party that helped Mayor Zohran Mamdani beat both corporate-owned parties, I've been fighting for you, for 72 years! We need you, Leeja 😭

Happy to have you here in Ireland 🎉 I'm down in south in Cork, it's nicer than Dublin 😉
Ireland is so expensive though and everything is more than it is in the EU. And yes, there's still racism unfortunately.

first time watcher. Thank you for sharing. This took courage. You saw what was happening, protected yourself, and still chose to speak. Keep fighting — your voice is needed now more than ever.
