Why Elvis Wanted The Beatles OUT Of America

Weird History | June 16, 2026

To the four young musicians from Liverpool who would become The Beatles, Elvis Presley was more than just the King of Rock ’n’ Roll, he was their hero. But the feeling was far from mutual.

Behind the scenes, Elvis grew increasingly bitter toward the band he inspired and what began as mutual admiration turned into resentment, jealousy, and even outright hostility.

On this episode of Weird History, we’re looking at why Elvis Presley hated The Beatles and what happened when the world’s biggest music icon was forced to watch a new generation take his throne. Which side of this rock n roll feud do you come down on? Let us know in the comments.

So anyways, Elvis did not want the Beatles out of America. He was a fan of them and sang their songs. John Lennon and George Harrison went to his concert in the 70s. He also was a registered Democrat.

Let's be blunt: The Beatles, especially Paul and John, were much better musicians than Elvis. The boys wrote their own music and had a bottomless well of musical ideas that played themselves out over the greatest albums, multiple albums, of all time.

I love rockabilly music but there are even other artists who did that better than Elvis.

Elvis Presley almost certainly had bipolar disorder, which he didn't get treatment for. When you think about how bad Kanye has gotten since getting off his meds 13-15ish years ago, Elvis' eccentric behaviors start to make sense

Your research is not very accurate here. For starters, Elvis is not the third highest grossing artist of all time. He is number one. Him and The Beatles are the only people that have ever grossed over $1 billion in music Sales. Elvis is the only singer to do it. The Beatles are the only band to do it. It’s literally a certified world record, not too hard to find that one.

I'm not really a huge fan of Elvis, but that hand writing was perfectly legible if you know cursive. It was actually really easy to read. It isn't Elvis's fault that they don't teach cursive any more.

Maybe you could do a Weird History Food about the Fools Gold Loaf, a sandwich that consists of a hollowed out sourdough loaf filled with a jar of peanut butter, a jar of jelly and a pound of bacon. Elvis and his entourage flew to Denver in the middle of the night and ate 22 of them in the hanger.
