Why Did This Razorlight Song Flop?
I have discovered that Razorlight have released a new song! However, their music video only at the time of recording this has about 3k views. What?! How can this be? They were a staple of the 00s. Here is a link to the video, please let’s help their video get the recognition it deserves: https://youtu.be/aeTby9NmovE

Before The Libertines had a record deal and before they were famous Johnny Borrell used to be a bass player in The Libertines. Hardcore Borrell fans probably already know but just thought I'd write it incase some people don't know. He left the band before The Libertines became successful 👍

Have you ever thought of releasing a solo acoustic album?

That’s so kind of you Justin to promote them:) sounds like they’ve had a bit of a creative struggle for some time and the latest video on their channel shows this.
I think that song was different from their usual style, but bands often evolve their sound and I was quite saddened that their new song didn’t take off.
Johnny Borrell is an artist and artists are dynamic creatures. Let’s not trap them in their past and let them surprise us a little, eh? 💚
In case you haven’t heard, the new album is coming out now 😊

Razorlight is the perfect example of a band who are/were very talented but just didn't get on well enough to sustain any longevity. Thanks for Golden Touch though, one of my all time favourites.

Big 3 when I was growing up: Maxïmo Park, Razorlight and The Libertines. I've had the pleasure of watching all of them live. But every time I hear anything from any of the 3 it takes me back to my youth.

Listening to Razorlight now. Thought I would look them up to see what happened to them. Goodness, what wasted potential. They never kicked on.

I listened to their Up All Night album yesterday and it reminded me how brilliant they could be. Cracking album 👍

Razorlight did some great songs. Many good artists from a while back are not being played or talked about

They just played this song on Radio X, so I think the song's getting more recognition…

I once interviewed Johnny Borrell, only interviewee who ever literally made my skin crawl.

I heard the lead singer was an arrogant knobhead. Although Morrissey seems to get away with it.

Your take on it reminded me of blackbird by the Beatles, in places.

I just remember the singer saying something stupid about Bob Dylan and being really arrogant? Great songs though.

Jsyk Justin it’s Andy singing during the first verse, not Johnny Borrell

Razorlight are so underrated but they went under the radar after they split. Seen them 3 times and love them
@KrisTherese
January 9, 2026 at 6:23 am
Johnny Borrell’s voice (and Razorlight’s musical style) is reminiscent of Neil and Tim Finn (atleast to my ears).
Would love to see you do a breakdown of some Split Enz songs! 😁
Split Enz are an absolute all time fave!

Johnny is is own worst enemy (just look at his new haircut) but I always loved their music. First 2 albums are top shelf indie rock n roll. Easily up there with the best of the last 20 years. Third album was pretty poor but had a couple of decent tunes. then the resurrection album back in 2018 actually has some bangers on there. If you havnt heard it, 'Japanrock' is epic as in 'Carry Yourself'.

My band The Buzzkill Romantics opened for them in San Diego back in 2004 and remember their ‘Golden Touch’ had a guitar riff very similar to ours and I never heard from them before…or after. Good to see them back. Ha, maybe my band, Swive, can open this tour. Hope they do tour…
Thanks for doing this bit, Justin.
