I kinda hate what goth has become, like I’m not goth but I love gothic literature along with Victorian styles, and I don’t think goth these days really emulate that at all, it’s very boring to me, it’s usually women with black hair, some kind of bangs and white paint makeup with big black eyeliner, along with some black clothes or whatever, I just personally think the style of goth doesn’t live up to the inspiration that it stems from, it’s also recently gotten so commercialized and that’s just icky… goth as a whole is just disappointing for me, and not to be rude to anyone’s style, this is just my opinion, I just think it doesn’t live up to its name

I feelt like alt fashion has been beautified. Like you could go out looking like the lady from Eurythmics but you probably wouldn't because you would look weird. Woman could start wearing chelsea cuts but that's too ugly for society. Fashion feels like a means to conformity rather than to express ourselves because influencers are advertising it to look good, so when there's looks that are histroically meant to go against beauty trends, you wouldn't do that because it's not mainstream. That's how I see it atleast

Idc about 67 or skibity toilet or whatever tf kids be on these day but, I feel visceral hatred to everyone literally grabbing their pants and curtsying to make them look wider for a video. You look dumb.

This may sound like I'm crazy, but I believe punk as sold is dead, real punk lives on countering the grasp of online algorithms. To dress it is to dress yourself perfected in your own unique style everywhere you go. Counter the algorithm, dressing whatever-core is conforming, punk is about not conforming to standards imposed on you. It's almost like just punk doesn't cut it anymore, as the information age progresses punk becomes more and more cybernetic…

As a young millennial (I’m the youngest I’ll be 30 this year), I’ve come to realize some of the most boring, flat personalities come wrapped in alt packaging. Alternatively(hehe), the more plain aesthetic folk be the real freaks with a host of hobbies and pastimes

Fashion in my country is so fcked. You can go buy the alt plastic bags on Shein or you gonna walk in the stores for all eternity, trapped in a flood of shit made for boomers. I've actually considered picking up sewing and making my own stuff.

I think a big thing that has also chainged things is how accesible everything is, things like skateboarding, listening to metal/rock and the entire history of the fashion is online makes it a lot easier to get into subcultures
You should look into visual kei! The history behind the fashion is interesting, but unfortunate tiktok has its claws in the subculture

many wannabe's, my whole family wears such clothes, my dad, brother and me, we're basically a metal family (or so my teacher said)

but now its "cringe" or "wannabe" because everyone else is the way i am… but when people speak to me they call ME the poser… while when i ask them things they think im crazy because i know more underrated music than overrated

First impression and bro is a professional hater. I love it. Im an old school make your own patches type punk, Make your jacket however you want but those perfectly aligned gerrymandered premade jackets just are so boring and organized rarely do I see people add extras to them.

I guess social media just makes this stuff seem more widespread than it actually is, like me and 2 of my friends were the only people out of everyone we knew who even knew what black metal was and everyone saw us as weird little autists, and I’m only 19 so it’s not like it was in the 90s

Thanks so much! I'm still not realizing how so many people call themselves alt without knowing music and history of certain subcultures, everything is just for "aesthetic" and "core" and tiktok, shein, temu etc. make billions with it! However i think you can be "alt" without labeling as a specific subculture, if you for example follow ideals & listen to music of multiple subcultures. I myself love listening to hardcore, punk, rock and gothic music and can't really attach my clothing style to any specific subculture! DIY and thrifting is the key though, and everyone should be aware that buying fast fashion stuff online is bullshit and not "alt".

Idc what anyone says, we should have gate keeped, sometimes thing need to be gate keeped bro, you cant just give anyone the keys to becoming like this bc its a cool style and everyonr will want to hop on while its trendy when in reality theres CULTURE behind this, a connection you have to develop through years, a personality, which is why we should of gate keeped everything to ourselves and friends and family, not posting how to become this and that online bc now anyone could call theirselfs such and such with a swipe of a card in a week, idk if any of that made sense but does anyone else agree with me😕

FYI Milo is one of the sweetest men I’ve ever met in the CA goth community.
He’s humble, down to earth and has done absolutely nothing to deserve hate from anyone. And if you actually talk to him, he will tell you the majority of pieces in his wardrobe are customized/tailored and well loved, re worn often. He supports and frequents many small businesses local to LA.. You shouldn’t make assumptions about people you’ve never met irl..
He’s definitely all about the music and hosts a lot of our year round goth events. I can see why so many people are obviously envious of his success..

lol. Punk was a revolt against consumerism… creates ad for consumerism…. then goes back into talking about how punk rejected consumerism. FFS the internet is hilarious. "alt fashion is cooked". Who cares? I've dressed the same way (i guess it'd be considered "alt" by todays kids) since I was 13. I'm in my 40s now. Never once have I or anyone I knew who "dressed alt" did it for fashion.
