I usually dsilike and most of the time refuse to watch western anime live actions, but Bet was pretty decent. Maybe because it's not really a remake. They just used the setting and characters and did whatever they wanted without taking themselves seriously. That's actually fun.

The only "remake" of something I already liked, that I liked the remake of was Scott pilgrim takes off, but tbh i dont know if that count as a remake

Something they always seem to miss is that anime has a romanticism in the way it deals with most topics, something that’s apparent in Japanese literature. To a western audience it’s kinda like 18th/19th style romanticism. It’s why certain situations that would otherwise be “cheesy” come across as more profound, because anime deals in sincerity as opposed to irony (broadly speaking). But the adaptations turn the romanticism into “soap opera”, which intrinsically undercuts most anime stories

This was my biggest problem with the new Little Mermaid! Why the heck did they go for realism>cuteness with the animals??? THE REALISTIC TALKING FISH WERE DISGUSTING. Why didn't they just leave the animals animated or something? That would have been so cute.

Its kinda ironic, that they always choose the most complicated and hard to transfer to another medium Anime's to try to transfer it to another medium. Meanwhile, The Iseiki genre basically is a free pass. I would watch I'm reincarnated as a young mage, the movie. It would be cool to see it explored in live action, or oh no I got reincarnated as a nobel warrior type shiz.
