Where the Garden of Eden Actually Could Have Been

Weird History | September 30, 2025

What happened to the Garden of Eden? This question has plagued many to go searching for the location of the fabled garden, and as such people have nominated places as crazy as Mars and Missouri as its source, while many scholars believe it never existed at all. Certain descriptions in Genesis leave only a few locations that fit the given criteria: the Armenian Highlands of Eastern Turkey (around where Noah might have landed after the flood), Northeast Africa (the ancestral home of man where Moses supposedly parted the Red Sea), and Jerusalem, even though the Bible describes Eden as east of Jerusalem.

i dreamt that eve was raped and she fell in the garden of eden because she wanted to kill the one who raped her. eve designed a multidemsion sphere in earth. and was banned. she blame adam as suspect but it is not adam's doing. so God decided to bring adam and eve to earth and banned, so that they will tell the truth. the garden of eden is a place for redemption.

I read a persuasive article that the Garden's 4 rivers flowed from Mount Karacadag in eastern Turkey. We know that the Tigris and Euphrates have headwaters that flow from that Mount.

28 April 2025) This video concludes that the Garden of Eden is a mythical place and therefore not identifiable.

Some scholars understand Genesis is of a polemical nature, written in response to and in refutation of Mesopotamian accounts of early Man's origins.

If this be so, then the Mesopotamian accounts of man's origins need to be studied to see what they say about man's origins?

Scripture identifies man's origin in a god's garden in a location called Eden,, somewhere in the East (Ge. 2:8)

Scripture identified Haran as being in the East (Ge. 29:1,4). Bible Atlses have Haran lying between the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers in northern

    Mesopotamia (modern Syria).

Scripture identified the Euphrates and Hiddekel rivers with Eden, in the East.

Mesopotamian myths mention a place called EDIN, translated to mean uncultivated wilderness lands or "wilderness."

    Hebrew Eden means "delight."

Perhaps via assonance, words sounding similar but different in meaning, Edin became Eden?

Mesopotamian myths identify two rivers with Edin, the Euphrates and Hiddekel.

Mesopotamian myths have no knowledge of a Pishon and Gihon river.

Mesopotamian myths have man created in the Edin, near the banks of Euphrates and Hiddekel rivers, in southern Mesopotamia, at Eridug.

Myths have the source of these two rivers (Ge. 2:10) to be at the Sumerian city of Eridug (Akkadian: Eridu), in southern Mesopotamia.

Myths have the single source of the Hiddekel (Tigris) and Euphrates, to be a mythological spring called the Abzu or Apsu at Eridu.

So, the single source of Eden's two streams is not the mountains of Armenia, but the flat plain of the Sumerian Edin, at Eridu and its mythical Abzu spring.

That is to say, the garden of Eden is the Sumerian Eridug, which is near the convergence of the Euphrates and Hiddekel/Tigris.

At Eridu, man is warned by its god, Enki/E-A,

"Do not eat the bread of death or water of death that Anu will offer you, for you will die!"

Adapa of Eridu obeys and does not consume Anu's offering in heaven.

Adapa did not realize his god, E-A, did not want man to have immortality, and had LIED to him about these items conferring immortality, not death.

Thus the Mesopotamian explanation of why man is not immortal.

    Genesis refutes this account!

    Adam disobeyed and ate,

Whereas Adapa obeyed and did not eat.

Genesis, via an inversion, has refuted the Mesopotamian account (Adapa and the Southwind) of why man is not immortal.

So, the Garden of Eden has been located:

its being the Sumerian city of Eridug, Akkadian Eridu, modern day Tel Abu Shahrein in southern Iraq.

Taga-Ilog😢A river went out from Eden to water the Garden, from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. The name of the first is Pison, which is it compasses the whole land of Havilah where there is gold. And the gold in that land is good. The land of Ophir where King Solomon got the gold. Marco Polo, Columbus, Magellan, Dr Jose Rizal, and Bush knew. Drain the ocean and you will find the river that flow from Eden. The Philippines 7000 islands are the mountains top in Havilah after the flood 🤫

(09 November 2024) So, where is the Garden in Eden, in Mesopotamian accounts of Man's Origins?

The various events occurring in the Bible's Garden of Eden, take place in different locations in Mesopotamian accounts of Man's origins!

Places like the EDIN appearing in the Epic of Gilgamesh, where En-Ki-Du (recast as Adam) meets Sham-hat (recast as Eve).

Edin is a Sumerian word translated as"Wilderness" the semi-arid steppe lands of today's Iraq, this Edin being watered by two streams the Sumerian In-digna, and Buranum (Babylonian: Id-diglat and Puratu, biblical Hiddekel and Euphrates).

Adam is also a recast of Sumerian Adaba, Akkadian Adapa in the Adapa and the South wind myth (a tale explaining why man is not immortal).

So God's warning: "Do not eat, you will die" given Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, is a recast of the god E-A of Eridu warning Adapa, Do not consume the bread and water of death that Anu will offer you in heaven.

Thus we have THREE LOCATIONS IN MYTHS, RECAST AS ONE LOCATION A GARDEN IN EDEN!

    (1) Man was created to be a gardening slave in the city gardens of Edin, ending the toil of the gods.

    (2) Man was created at several locations in the Edin: The city of Nippur by En-lil; the city of Eridu by E-A, the Edin wilderness in the Epic of Gilgamesh.

(3)Man was created by goddesses at the behest of male gods (En-lil, E-A).

    (4) Man is a violent shedder of human blood because he was made in the image of gods who slew each other before creating man.

    (5) E-A was not willing to allow man to be immortal, he thwarts Au's offer of immortality to Adapa (cf. Adapa and the South Wind Myth).

    (6) Man;s destiny is toil till death in Edin's city gardens, by Ziggurats, feeding the gods daily garden produce that they do not die of thirst or hunger.

    (7) En-Lil orders a global flood to destroy all of mankind, whose clamor in his city garden of Edin, disturbs his rest by day and sleep by night.

    (8) On the seventh day of the Shurrupak flood (ca. 2900 BC) all the world is silent with mankind's demise in the floodwaters (cf. the Epic of Atrahasis).

    (9) Sumerian art shows bald-headed NAKED MEN as servants of the gods, bringing baskets of fruit from Edin's garden to feed the gods daily (cf. The Uruk Vase)
Sumerian art shows NAKED WOMEN poring drink offerings to seated goddesses.

    (10) Sumerian myths have the source of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers to be the city of Eridu and its mythological Apsu/Abzu spring.

    (11) The Mesopotamian gods WOULD NEVER EXPEL MAN FROM THIER CITY GARDENS IN EDIN!
    WHY?
TO DO SO WOULD MEAN THE GODS WILL HAVE TO RETURN TO THEIR GARDENS AND TOIL IN THEM DAILY, MAKING IRRIGATION CANALS AND CLEARING THEM OF SEDIMENTS, BACK-BRAKING DIRTY WORK FIT FOR ONLY MAN THE GARDENING SLAVE!

(09 November 2024) This video concludes by asking the viewer where Eden's Garden is?

    So, here goes:

THE "TRICK" TO FINDING EDEN'S GARDEN:

First, one must realize Genesis 1-11 is in response to, and in refutation of, earlier Mesopotamian accounts of Man's origins.

To understand WHY GENESIS IS REFUTING MESOPOTAMIAN ACCOUNTS OF MAN'S ORIGINS, IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT ONE STUDIES THE MESOPOTAMIAN ACCOUNTS:

    Sumerian, Assyrian and Babylonian:

    (1) WHY was Man created?

    (2) WHERE was Man created?

    (3) WHO created Man?

    (4) WHY IS MAN A violent SHEDDER OF human BLOOD?

    (5) WHY IS MAN NOT IMMORTAL?

    (6) WHAT is man's DESTINY?

    (7) Why did Man's Creator seek his demise in a global flood?

    (8) Why did man's Creator REST ON A SEVENTH DAY?

    (9) Why A NAKED ADAM AND EVE?

    (10) WHAT IS THE SOURCE OF EDEN'S RIVERS IN MESOPOTAMIAN TEXTS?

My research (1990-2024) has found the answers to ALL the above questions after consulting the texts

of the Sumerians, Assyrians and Babylonians,

as preserved in scholarly works by PhD Scholars in Universities concerned with ancient Semitic Studies.

In 2010 I self-published my findings in two books:

    (1) Walter R. Mattfeld. The Garden of Eden Myth: Its Pre-biblical Origins. pp. 170. illustrated, bibliography.

    (2) Walter R. Mattfeld. Eden's Serpent: Its Mesopotamian Origins. pp. 170. illustrated. bibliography.

1 river went out of eden and then became four head waters it means in the hebrew head waters. in paleo hebrew means "beginning of four rivers" not deltas or ends of rivers. it's not a parable

Another group I created in 2022 is Garden of Eden Society, a wildcraft group (the "gathering" part of Hunting and Gathering).

It is based off the idea that for 90% of human history we were hunters and gatherers and can easily find security in the practice again.
How cool would that be to develop both groups at the same time, would be like Nebraska and Michigan both winning the National Championship in 1998!

I have read many articles with respect to the location of that garden and none however indicate precisely where it is but if your dead serious of knowing the location why not try to believe that it is nowwhere to be found except in the philippines beneath the seas and it is still there and never destroyed by the flood just believe it before you and i close our eyes
