One time I went to my favorite restaurant an hour before closing. I inhaled my food, tipped the server well, and got the hell out in 30 minutes.

I've been going to the same laundromat for the last nine years and those last nine years they've had a sign up on the front door that says and I quote. (Open till 9, Last wash at 8.)
It makes perfect sense to me.

Most of my local restaurants close their kitchen an hour before the restaurant and they always have a last call for food so people know.

If the restaurant closes at 10 it should close at 10. Guest must stop eating, pay and leave the fuck out.

Yup, we have the same policy at my hotel restaurant: last seating is a half hour before closing time, and (since we're a buffet) servers are to give their sections a last call about fifteen minutes before the kitchen tears down the buffet. And the hosts are not supposed to let anyone in after last seating. (Happens anyway with new hosts, but usually only once.)

As a dishwasher 25 years ago before I could legally drive the host is supposed to turn these low level people down.
