When an Imposter Is Put On the Spot | Tales From the Bottle

Qxir | August 17, 2025

This imposter managed to con his way into a pretty high ranking position, but what happened when he was forced to do his job?

“Ferdinand Waldo Demara Jr. (1921 – June 7, 1982) was an American impostor.
He was the subject of a movie, The Great Impostor, in which he was played by Tony Curtis.
Demara’s impersonations included a naval surgeon, a civil engineer, a sheriff’s deputy, an assistant prison warden, a doctor of applied psychology, a hospital orderly, a lawyer, a child-care expert, a Benedictine monk, a Trappist monk, an editor, a cancer researcher, and a teacher. One teaching job led to six months in prison.
There are not many facts that have been proven about Demara, only speculation, as there are only a few articles and movies about him that were created during his lifetime. Demara was said to possess a true photographic memory and was widely reputed to have an extraordinary IQ. He was apparently able to memorize necessary techniques from textbooks and worked on two cardinal rules: The burden of proof is on the accuser and When in danger, attack. He described his own motivation as “Rascality, pure rascality”.”

Still plenty oof time for United Flakes to surrender. If United Flakes hand Dunny Lump and his gang of criminals over to the ICC we can still work out a deal to save the USA from dismemberment and occupation.

You know, while we have the impression an imposter is bound to reveal themselves sooner or later… It's probably just because we don't know of those who didn't. Who knows how many employed professionals are actually conmen, but more successful than this guy?

i would understand that he could be able to do surgery without the qualifications. clearly he was reading up, and was a fast learner. after all that is how real surgeos learn. and most of them could be expected to be able to have a good chance of not fucking up after a few years under training. but the reality is that some people learn a lot faster than other. im a bit impressed that he knew enougth antonomy to do it, he must have been doing a lot of studying on his own.

but the fact that hes somehow so impressive that he makes the news. now that is incredible. i dont even know what a ship surgeon has to do to make the news.
