It made Bill seem more like a 'regular guy' rather than just another politician. And, he was the first baby boomer generation president. Baby boomers were tired of their parents' generation 'running the show' so to speak & Bill came into political consciousness as a younger, 'cool dude' politician. Clinton was one of the most natural politicians of our lifetimes; it felt like he was 'one of us' only a whole lot smarter than most of us. The sax playing made him seem even more so.

Because Schrodinger's Cat is about being in both states until observation – I thought you would say he was a man playing an instrument he loved, until he is observed by an electorate, at which point he becomes a cynical politician.

Clinton can play the sax really well. I keep seeing people saying that he’s “basic” or he’s “average” but every musician agrees Clinton was no amateur. He was very good at playing the saxophone.

you can throw a million trillion billion theories at this .. i reckon he just likes the saxophone. and maybe he combined it with the strategy at the time or whatever. no one cares … or if you care, youre free to care 😆 also hillary was kinda hot.

Honestly, Bill Clinton is not good at playing the saxaphone, but the fact that he can actually blowing different notes sort of in tune with the band, is a major accomplishment. I can't play the flute or a saxaphone. Although I tried and the grade school teachers were convinced that I was going to be a great flutist. Seriously, its way more trouble than its worth. Too freaking hard to play. Also, he only blew like 50 notes. And they were easy ones.

The saxophone is really the perfect instrument to play for a presidential candidate. It's classic enough to appeal to old people but rock and roll enough to appeal to young people

Definitely an interesting video coverig something I had only seen mentioned in another documentary. It's interesting seeing the parallels with Tony Blair and New Labour in the UK. In particular getting his gutiar brought to Number 10 and making a show of having grown up with the Beatles and TV..

I am sure it was a political stunt but Bill Clinton was able to do this because he played or plays the saxophone. One of the video clips shows him adjusting the mouthpiece to tune it which suggests that he plays the saxophone reasonably well. The Kenny G infatuation is rather odd as he plays the soprano sax, not the tenor sax (although both are B flat instruments) perhaps Kenny G was chosen as he was the most popular saxophone player (as opposed to Sonny Rollins) and Boots Randolph won't work for getting more votes. 😉

Playing the Saxophone to appeal to a younger crowd is not immoral. It's so innocent compared to what goes in politics today. We need a president that will listen to the younger generation. I really miss Bill!

there's a very important aspect to the schroedinger's cat thought experiment that i think makes it a horrible analogy for pretty much any non-quantum phenomenon. yes the cat is "simultaneously dead and alive" because one can't know in advance whether or not the radioactive decay (or whatever other process) actually occurred, but, critically, the system collapses fully to one state upon observation. the seemingly contradictory state can't persist. once the cat is dead it's fucking dead.

small nitpick though! i love these deep dives into the rich context of american politics. so many histories tend to hyperfixate on particular policies or socioeconomic statistics (which are super important!!!), but they lose a lot of the spirit of how things were seen and felt by those living them.

If Bill Clinton did love to play the saxophone, then what probably worked was people seeing someone being real, consciously or subconsciously. I think that goes a long way, more than public persona.

Did I just hear you correctly? "he can be totally authentic…"
Gimme a break, man. You didn't even cover his involvement in the Iran Contra scandal. The Nicaraguan coke was stored in Arkansas because Clinton was the Governor at the time. Which practically makes him a Bush family employee. Don't believe me? Look into it for yourself instead of spending so much time on you knees for "Slick Willie," filling in for Monica. Bill sure left a bad taste in that girl's mouth, but you haven't lost your taste for him I see. Gross. Please delete this pathetic excuse for a video.

Warren G. Harding played the tuba and Harry Truman and Richard Nicon played piano. President Clinton like jazz so he could play the saxohone. I don't think it affected him being elected.

Clinton was also wearing a leather jacket quite often during this time period. I can remember my history teacher telling the class that him wearing the jacket was so he could appeal to a younger demographic. My teacher had pointed out the jacket looked brand new, off the rack, like it was being worn for the first time. None of that mattered to my sophomore history class, in our eyes, our then potenital future president played the sax, did an interview on MTV and wore leather- we were won over.

I think Hitler played an instrument, too. Where's the video about how great his skills were? Bill Clinton was a rapist, murderer, worshipper of Satan, liar, thief, adulterer and corrupt President. He was many more terrible things but I don't have six months of free time to list them all. He was a halfway decent musician, at best. What video should we expect next? The never heard, unreleased album from the supergroup power trio consisting of Stalin, Obama and Pol Pot featuring Jeffrey Dahmer dropping rhymes on select tracks? I don't care if he made Charlie Parker look like a first grader that only picked up a sax for the first time when the school year started. He's a stain on our nation and on humanity and you can't stop glorifying him. Subscription canceled. Down vote upcoming. I will never watch your channel again.
