What Happened Right After Lincoln Was Assassinated?
Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth in April of 1865.
Lincoln was examined by doctors and then taken across the street to a room in the Petersen House where he died on April 15, 1865 at 7:22 am.
The after effects of Lincoln’s assassination were immediate. People in the North mourned the loss of their leader, while some in the South rejoiced – and paid a hefty price for doing so. A ripple effect spread through the country over the next few years. Some triumphed in the wake of Lincoln’s assassination, while others were left to pick up the pieces of the presidency and mourn. Here’s a look into the ramifications of that momentous event.

"Lincoln was buried on Easter"??? That couldn't have happened so quickly. Easter in 1865 was on April 16th, the day after he died. How could Lincoln's body arrive in Springfield and be buried so soon if 180 train stops were made?

Has anyone taken the time to see “Our American Cousin”? It is quite humorous, has a reasonable plot and is really corny. As I watched it though I realized that it was written very long ago. That fact made me realize that it reflected that long ago time, not today. Watching it again some time later, I enjoyed it thoroughly!

Do you know why Grant and Julia were not at Ford’s theater with Lincoln and Mary? It seems that Mary was at times rude and nasty to others especially. Julia. Grant turned down the invitation due to this fact. Also Grant and Julia wanted to see their children at the New Jersey shore as they hadn’t seen them in some time. Would Grant’s presence made a difference? No one truly knows!

The joke line was NOT the one mentioned in the video! If they had changed the line Booth wouldn't have known the timing!! The change in the line, from what I know being a civil war history buff, is not true!! They said the same line/joke as they did during all performances!

One anecdote that was said at the time is that Booth actually bowed to the audience before fleeing from the stage.

0:02 you got the date month and date wrong. Lincoln was assassinated in 1865 not 1965 that’s a mistake and error. Lincoln was assassinated in April 15 1865.

The line about the draft was not the joke Booth waited for to fire. It was a joke about a guy calling a woman a man-trap.

John wasn’t thrown and his leg didn’t break. He leaped from the box onto the stage without stumbling. John was practiced in dramatic entrances to stages from great height, for a spectacular effect. He did not limp — he swaggered in pride. Later, his horse threw him and that was when his leg was injured.

William Crook, who worked for Lincoln at the White House, said that he had always parted for the evening by saying "goodnight" to him as he left, but on April 14, he reportedly said "goodbye" and this gave chills to Crook as he found it so unusual 🙄
He was shot by Booth at Ford's Theatre about two hours after this exchange 😐
