What China Found on the Moon Doesn’t Look Normal
For decades, planetary scientists couldn’t explain why the Moon’s near and far sides look so completely different. Physical soil samples returned by China’s Chang’e-6 mission are finally unraveling the story. The far side’s rugged, cratered crust reveals a history of intense thermal turmoil, completely exposed to the deep solar wind. Meanwhile, Earth’s trailing magnetic field has spent billions of years acting as an invisible shock absorber for the side facing us. This unexpected dynamic changes our entire understanding of the Earth-Moon system just as humanity prepares to return to the lunar south pole.

As far as surface differences of the moon go I'd think it obvious. The earth shields the near side of the moon from most strikes leaving looking completely different from the far/unprotected side of the moon.

Microspherules are not of volcanic origin. This was confirmed byThomas Gold in 1969, who confirmed there was no evidence of gaseous bubbles within the microspherules, but tracks of radioactive isotopes were observed, indicating the origin of these particles, which are also found on Earth and now on Mars.

Absolutely amazing episode. It makes sense the tidal locking would cause differences but the magnetosphere shadow is a crazy revelation.
Thank you for this distinct science coverage. 💙

The odds that the moon formed from an earth impact. Are astronomically impossible!! To form it just the right size at just the right distance just the right orbit at just the right rotation etc….! Scientist are always wrong!!!

I think you described it wrong. When the face side goes through the magnetic tail of Earth, so too does the distant side. However the distant side would proportionally get smashed by the Sun and the face side being between the Earth and the far side, would be protected.

That because its not a moon, its a huge round building holding millions of aliens and humans running this world..its never made any sense in real science..

The moon is not a solid sphere. It's a hollow object. It was flown into orbit and parked there, eons ago. Believe it or don't. See if I care.

PLEASE, fix the AI voice so we are not subjected to "Chang'e________6" and similar. Use a fake spelling that the AI will read as "Chang'e_6", if you can't or won't fix the AI.

Thanks.
Of course, the Moon might have been formed not wholly out of SMALL ejecta from the Theia collision.
A substantial chunk of the impacted body might have formed a hook and gravitational "attracter" for much smaller fragments, and somehow the two resulted in (effectively) a bifurcated whole Moon, with the two "halves" exhibiting very different characteristics today.

China: “We found something unusual on the Moon.”
Me: “Please don’t say ‘doesn’t look normal’ like that.” 😂
@ENMeans
September 14, 2026 at 1:09 am
If we find something unusual where it should not be, we look for its source. But we live in a most amazing universe/world. Why are we not looking for its source? And I don't mean cosmology. That is how we started, but WHAT MADE WHAT WE ARE? Oh, right, it just happened and changed over time all by itself. You want to know about something out of place on the moon? The whole universe is "something out of place".

The Moon is full of mysteries, maybe because of its capacity to keep things untouched for millennia. In other words, it is a great recording device of all its history. Maybe one day we will even find ancient alien artifacts protected in a lava tube. All this mystery resembles the story in the sci-fi novel Lunar Pit. I can't wait for the return of humans to the Moon and see what they will find.

You’ll get karma kicking you in the nuts being dishonest. It’s simply not attractive. Eventually people will tire of it. Like me.
