Wet Leg Unveils New Album Moisturizer and Daring Video for "Catch These Fists"

In a splashy announcement today, indie darlings Wet Leg have revealed their highly anticipated sophomore album, Moisturizer, set to drop on July 11 via Domino. The five-piece group from the Isle of Wight has also released the vibrant, self-directed music video for the album’s lead single "Catch These Fists," showcasing their knack for catchy hooks and offbeat humor.

Wet Leg, made up of founding members Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers, alongside bassist Ellis Durand, drummer Henry Holmes, and guitarist and synthesizer player Joshua Mobaraki, have quickly made a name for themselves since their self-titled debut captivated audiences in 2022. Their first LP racked up a slew of accolades, including multiple Grammy wins, proving that their blend of jangly guitars and clever lyricism struck a chord across the musical landscape.

The new track "Catch These Fists" retains the band’s signature playful energy while diving deeper into the raw and authentic approach that characterized their debut. Shot on their scenic home turf, the Isle of Wight, the music video incorporates visual inspirations from renowned filmmakers like Ti West and Cameron Crowe, presenting a flair for storytelling alongside their buoyant sound. In a nod to their earlier single "Wet Dream," the video captures a sense of whimsy that is quintessentially Wet Leg.

Moisturizer was born out of a unique creative environment; the band spent time living together in the coastal town of Southwold, Norfolk, allowing for an intimate and collaborative writing process. Working by day and indulging in horror movies by night, they brewed a kaleidoscope of inspirations. "We were just kind of having fun and exploring," Chambers recalls, reflecting the band’s ethos of keeping the creative spirit lighthearted. Teasdale emphasizes this further: "We focused on: Is this going to be fun to play live? It was very natural that we would write the second record together."

The album features an eclectic tracklist that promises to keep listeners engaged through its wide-ranging themes and styles. Highlights include quirky titles like "Jennifer’s Body," "Pillow Talk," and the eerie-sounding "11:21." With this new body of work, Wet Leg is poised to solidify their place as one of the most exciting bands in contemporary music.
