Thankfully, the world is full of all types of dogs… Well, maybe not all types – these unique breeds don’t exist anymore!
“A research article on dog genomics published in Science/AAAS defines modern dog breeds as “a recent invention defined by conformation to a physical ideal and purity of lineage”.
According to BigThink, over 40% of the world’s dog breeds come from the United Kingdom, France and Germany. It states: “Great Britain and France are the ground zero of dog fancying, with 57 registered breeds each. Germany is not far behind, with 47 breeds. These three countries alone represent more than 40% of all dog breeds recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale.””

5:19 "rastreador" means "tracker", so it's more likely that they were supposed to warn people that jaguars were around

The Ca de Bou technically went extinct because there was no documented purebreds left. It was revived using Ca de Bou mixes and other bulldog breeds

5:33 they also used mountain goat fur and inner cedar bark for waterproof pieces! coast salish weaving was/ is an incredible practice look it up!

i cannot imagine the rastreador wasn't used as living fodder rather than normal hunting, jaguars and boars are hard for armed humans to kill, let alone a medium sized dog

I think the turnspit dogs were cute, but the Belgian Mastiff and the Salish Wool Dogs are even better. I love draft dogs, and alternative fiber livestock are always neat.
