Who has stolen the sky?
Where did the water go?
The Earth beneath my feet shudders and shifts
as though some creature is eating its heart out.
Fur and feathers and scales and skin
all have vanished
not even any bones
just the silence.
I remember there was trees and trees and trees
and now there are stumps
and thorns and tumble weeds
where did the forest go?
Where did the tall grass go?
Where did little streams
and the rabbits and the geese?
What happened to my People?
Has the Earth swallowed them up
or have they fled to some other planet?
It's lonely here now
with just the funny smelling wind
and the broken rocks to talk to.
