Totally misleading narrative looks far more like Chaos Engine.,than Gauntlet, Gauntlet had the screen crowded with foes.

The game is beautiful but besides its few level its like the producer wanted to do something more with it and left it in the middle! Maybe some dlc extra stages mocking the expansion worlds of diablo,adding lets say 4 more stages with a New vilain etc?! And few new characters as well to feel even more complete,as a true arcade experience should have 3 to 4 more areas also i believe!

I just downloaded the 2014 gauntlet on steam last weekend. Just had a hankering for that game but didn’t wanna mess with any of my old stuff. The 2014 game was really great.

Looks more like the Capcom D&D games than Golden Axe on the beat'em up side of things. Anyway, pretty cool. Love the pixel art.

YES so glad you mentioned Chaos Engine (or Soldier of Fortune as we yanks knew it) DAMN FINE shooter and the first comparison I thought of as well. Even the company had a similar name, Bitmap Bros!

Here's the thing…Nothing in this genre beats GAUNTLET DARK LEGACY on PS2. I still digg this game and will most likely get the pc version tho.

Looks nice. It reminds me of old arcade games Wizard Fire and Gate of Doom. That being said I think we need more lives in this game.
It’ll be worth checking out when it goes on sale.

It looks great but far too zoomed in for my tastes. Has a really claustrophic feel to it despite being the lush outdoors.

This has an arcade feel, except it lacks the option to Continues with a score reset. Otherwise, I could totally see this as a cabinet in a pizza parlor.

Someone remade the Amiga Doom clone Alien Breed 3D in GZDoom, and its pretty great! Its called "Project Osiris".

I don't see anything at all that reminds me of Golden Axe here besides the generic fantasy theme. Way closer to Arcus Odyssey, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, and Chaos Engine since it's not a beatemup, it's a run'n'gun with a melee attack

This looks ace, going to get myself a copy. However it looks like a cross between Gauntlet and Chaos Engine more than Golden Axe

I get a very strong "Elfmania" vide in here. Sure, it looks very nice, sounds very nice and has a nice first impression to it, but the gameplay itself leaves much to be desired. When the developers thought, it was a good idea to make it unforgiving hard, well, it wasn't a good idea. Also the comparison to "Chaos Engine" isn't right. The only things these games have in common is a great presentation and that both are overhead perspective action games. Chaos Engine has much more depth in the gameplay department.

If Battle Axe was released in the early '90s, which consoles do you think would have been able to handle it? I'm guessing the Neo Geo is the only one which would have been able to without major downgrades.

This honestly doesn't seem very good. Music seems nice, sprite collision seems terrible and gameplay seems nothing like Golden Axe or Gauntlet aside from that you have to blow up things the enemies spawn from. Doesn't have the magic or mounts of golden axe or the mazes of gauntlet. As far as I could see, anyway. And people are saying you can't move and attack at the same time and there are only 4 levels? Was this an ad? Your copy didn't mention any of the glaring issues that were happening even in the video you captured!
