Peter Graves was on mission impossible as was the detective in this episode. Davis is ANDREW Steven's. STELLA SON.

I'd like to point out that Andrew Stevens (David Tolliver) played Mike Eruzione in the made-for-TV movie "Miracle On Ice", with Karl Malden as (a not-looking-like-him but really good) Herb Brooks. Whenever I watch this episode, I keep saying in my mind, "Eim a hockey playah!" And then the Olympic Fanfare plays.

Never liked him as an actor or person. He was married to Kate Jackson way back. Creepy guy.

His character continues in the Columbo episode Murder in Malibu.

I always think Stevens is creepy. He has the look of a villain, a stalker or worse. Angela Lansbury also seems to meander along and enter all kinds of questionable places. Not smart behavior for a supposedly smart woman. And Peter Graves? Known for Mission Impossible, the TV series.

I think Jess dodged a bullet. What doesn't make sense is that the bullet never tried again…

The character never came back but the actor did as another possible creepy weirdo murderer. Anyone know that actors name btw? And I've already started writing MY autobiography and it's called Harmless but Horny😂😂😂❤

You missed the connection between Peter Graves and Greg Morris, who played the detective. Both were in Mission Impossible. This is one of many episodes which featured sets of characters from other shows. Love this content.

I was not expecting a Leisure Suit Larry reference.

At the beginning it shows the killer eyes so when we first met him I thought he was the killer at the beginning unlike the others

While not one of my favs, I do like this episode. I love Peter Graves, Greg Morris, both of whom were on Mission Impossible together, and Lois Nettleton.

What's creepy about every single episode of 'Murder: She Wrote' is that Jessica Fletcher was always there at the location of a murder. Either in the States or around the world, she was there on location where someone she either knew or was acquainted with was murdered. Yet, she herself was never accused of or suspected of the approx 274 murders, including 60 in Cabot Cove, her hometown. But there is one single episode where she was accused of a murder but of course was innocent. Also, it seemed the death of her husband was a blessing in disguise for only then did her talent for writing mysteries express itself and her sudden endless circle of friends all round the world arose.

I had an ex like David. Watching this episode makes me so uneasy :’<

I would like to know who played first victim Alison Brevard. She had a couple of lines of dialogue before she was strangled by her own pearl necklace. You can't expect the viewer to assume Amelia (Lois Nettleton) was the killer in that scene. The killing of Lila was more her speed. 😮

You know folks, there is that reboot coming up with Jamie Lee Curtis. Maybe we will see David Tolliver once again. 🤔
Wait a minute (looks at David. Thinks then looks at the Hollywood Wives Wikipedia page) I knew it! THAT'S BUDDY HUDSON!!! Struggling actor and ex-gigolo of older women! Oh wait then he also played Deke Andrews, his psychopathic identical twin and, dun dun dun, murderer!

I just had to look up the name of the actor who played David Tolliver. An actor named Andrew Stevens. Stevens was on the show twice. 5 years after this episode, Stevens came back, but he was playing a totally different character. Pity, because he could have come back as Tolliver, with a storyline about him spending half a decade being obsessed with Jessica.

Revisiting this years later to say while David never returned the actor did and he was equally creepy and season fives double exposure.

David is the killer cuz at the end his whole face changed this What happened he get close to the older woman and see What she got and steals then kills
@dormagio
August 9, 2026 at 1:22 am
I agree with how murdery this David seems, but he can't be the killer because one of Jessica Fletcher's detective superpowers is immediately vibe checking whether someone can kill.

One absolutely great thing about Ms Angela Lansbury
among the myriad of wonderfulnesses of herswas that she would hire older actors, often friends, so they would not lose their SAG/AFTRA pensions. I could not love her more for this.. For instance, actor Len Cariou appeared in several episodes. Not well known outside of theater, he was “Sweeney Todd” in the original Bway production , in which Angela made theater history as “Mrs. Lovett.”-Okay. Off to go.. lamp shopping.

Every decade has that one haircut that just takes over.
80s: that updo that Jess has
90s: the short choppy layers with thick highlights
2000s: bowl cuts
2010s: Undercuts

the receipt bothers me a lot. when they calculated the price, its like they paid Jessica to drink the coffee. Also, its Heart of Palm salad

Actually, my thought about Peter Graves was more along the lines of him working on "Mission: Impossible" on a nearby set and asking his co-star Greg Morris if he wanted to tag along to the "Murder, She Wrote" set for the lols…

I just finished that episode and David was so creepy and unsettling, especially at the end of the episode that I was brought here after googling if he ever showed up again as a real killer. I couldn't remember MSW ever have any episodes that weren't pretty much self contained but that ending seemed to really set up him returning at a later time as a threat to Jessica

there were TWO actors from Mission Impossible
