I too still have my Bible with my name on it. When I was a believer I would write in all the margins and every blank space my thoughts. It is an interesting artifact from my past, to see how I used to think.

There isn’t a god but a god like force developed Rhett’s mane. I’m not jealous because to have something like this you are lacking in another area.

Fascinating discussion. I would just add that Paul himself said that Christians “proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to gentiles.” Even he acknowledged that it’s not self-evident.

There’s so much hypocrisy and willful dishonesty of so many Christians in order to push their faith. I hear constantly from Christians about how evil Islam is and one repeated reason is that they believe in spreading their religion by any means including being dishonest. Yet, I see tons of Christians, specifically in the USA editing and chopping up videos out of context or just creating made up stories to make it seem like there’s a “Christian revival”. Then you call it out and there’s always the morally righteous Christian reaction, or the “you’re lying, you just hate Christian’s” reaction. Then they wonder why people have a negative reaction to Christian’s, at least in the United States, idk how it is in other parts of the world.

This is the problem with rampant pseudo-intellectualism amongst this podcast community. You two are just stroking eachother off about how confused you are about everything, but using performative nonsense arguments to masquerade as some keepers of esoteric knowledge.
This is just modern grifting. No ideas of your own, just safe nuanced space of "i dont know, because ive killed my own discernment".
Intelligence really is plummeting.

Dick Dawkins will choke on his porridge if he sees the stats showing belief in Jesus is up to 66 percent from 45 percent a few years ago, despite his best efforts 😂

These two conversations have been possibly my favorite two conversations about Christianity. I've deconstructed, mostly, but I never started from a hyper vigilant place like Rhett. Like Rhett, I still remain enamored with Jesus and everything he has to say. But when 60% of your base cannot process "fact' it becomes very hard to engage in conversations

Very great intellectual dialogue and open uncertainties presented. Do you two have any thoughts on that you may be confused at all? Thanks

Just to take a jab at the beginning of this video, Rhett starts with the first incorrect interpretation of scripture. Faith being the evidence of things unseen does not mean the faithful see nothing. That scripture is pointing out that when you see a person expressing faith in Jesus that their faith is evidrnce to you of things you don't yet see. This is not a direction to Christians to have blind or unseen faith at all.
The primary evidence is a Christian knows what sins they have committed because they have been revealed to them by The Holy Spirit. There are many other thing Christians have revealed or shown to them, but this is the foundation. At no point does a Christian see "nothing".
On " pursuing political power is betraying Christian principles"
This is a struggle because "kingdoms" have a King that individually would answer to God where USA and the western world generally have many sovereigns that answer to "the people". Given this then "the people" have a governmental responsibility to create systems on earth that reflects God's will as governments themselves are given by God. This does not create the priority that Christians are to build "The City of God". On earth, but it certainly can look like that. The priority of Christians is supposed to be spreading The Gospel not running the government. Having a temporary duty to run a government system in a Godly way is separate but connected and through our sin these duties can be confused. Also Christians vote for the systems themselves to reflect their beliefs and they can be manipulated into sin as well. So then its a doomed mess…..like us Christians have been saying all along. God's direct Sovereign Kingship is the only government that will work and that government is not here yet .

Great discussion! Will say thought that I feel that the rainbow body and resurrected Jesus is a bit of a false equivilancy on Rhett's part given what is required to attest to in each case.

Churches are stepping in to take your money, make you feel guilty and threaten you with hell if you don't obey. This God is just sooo good and mercifull, right?

Christianity has broken itself in so many ways it's hilarious and I'm really happy about it.

August 25, 2026 at 5:37 pm
Haha Jesus doesn't need saving; he's good!
You guys understand the gospel, but continue to reject God's offer to forgive you of your sins. And all you have to so is believe in this man who you claim to have so much love and respect for.
Believe me, long after you and me are dead and gone, Jesus and His Word will still stand supreme, no need of saving.
But where will you be?

Almost as good as your local crackhead talking about intricacies of bio-chemistry.
Why is O'connor running from Jay Dyer?
Westoids think Christianity starts with the bible as if it fell from the sky for the average moron to interpret however they feel.
"Muh 12gauge and muh biible is all I need" no wonder western "churches" produce atheist goobers.

I find the idea that the ancient Greeks seemed to have no issue with those deep philosophical ideas and their gods existing together but to the Christians it was impossible for them to coexist quite interesting

Christianity today is politically motivated…Christians don't practice what Jesus taught: they're all about control and judgement

Like Rhett, I also grew up in the conservative south going to church every Sunday and began doubting my Christian beliefs as I gained personal independence, studying sciences in college, and deep inter personal thought and conversations. I now identify as Agnostic and remain open minded about a God(s) because I can’t rule it out myself. The truth is blind faith is dangerous and most Christians never put any deep thought to which Christian denomination fits their values, let alone consider any other religion. If there is a God(s), perhaps their miracle was creating the laws of physics, evolution, the universe, etc. That IS the miracle! Very well done video promoting self reflection and the maturity to realize you yourself is capable of being wrong about something and putting the effort into understanding = wisdom

Man I truly don't think organised religion is required to make people good, and I genuinely think if we can we should replace it. Everyone in my life isn't religious, they're all incredible people, and I think organised religion generally adds a layer of compliance and I AM GOD SUBMIT bullshit that humans should never have to deal with. Not all religions, just what are in my opinion, the bad ones. Either remove this yucky, filthy control mechanism, or remove the institution. Humans are, and I'll die and argue on this hill, naturally empathetic and good ( for the most part), and if we create safe environments and mould a healthy set of cultures, we do not need this sort of religion.
@davidgoen2295
August 25, 2026 at 5:37 pm
I grew up in the Church being taught that faith and belief in God and the resurrection and the Bible was not rational and that's why it required faith. However, I innately am a logical person. As I got older, I really leaned into logic. The idea and directive to ignore logic and follow teachings under blind faith became more and more uncomfortable. Which was in part that led me to deconstruction and deconversion.

I would love to just talk with Rhett on this because, wow. I think he’s found Christ and loves the church but knows the doctrines are all missing the point.
It is spiritual and it does involve deconstructing yourself and experiencing ego death in a way.

As a christian this was a great interview and raises alot of question. Some things about the Bible was misquoted or misrepresented which I dont think yall did on purpose. For example Mark 16 talks about Jesus resurrection and empty tomb. But still great convo you gained a subscriber.
@allergic2bananas
August 25, 2026 at 5:37 pm
38:00 i DO interview them while they're walking in sometimes and the answers I hear are sad and equally as intriguing. 1- "To find a partner in Christ" 2- "To prove to myself that there is someone out there who cares" or 3- "I just dont know what to believe in anymore" are the three most common answers that I've heard.
