Old Youtube: Fever dream YTPs that were funny, it was a crazy time and it was only fun then and there, videos where adult themes were accepted, like the old SMG4 videos with Fnaf that had slurs and adult words too. The old youtube community in Sweden too was different where it felt like a dream world,

New Youtube: Creators crying over why they aren't famous when they have not even done anything to gain fame and everything is adapted to kids nowadays, people are just milking content for views and it feels like they don't even enjoy what they are doing,

When you were leading into "YouTube's most controversial decision," I was expecting you to discuss how they pay for watch time as opposed to view count. It drove out a lot of animators and is the reason people like Arin Hanson went from animating to uploading let's play videos. The work load wasn't worth the payout anymore, and I think that really shifted YouTube from being a welcoming platform for short-form content creators to allowing longer content like lectures and podcasts to flourish. Of course, with the rise of TikTok, we've seen a resurgence of short-form content, but the animators we lost in the early 2010s never truly returned to the platform.

Old youtube along with all of the old internet felt great because there was no algorithm. It just felt like constant discovery. Now, it feels like being trapped in a box and like it's impossible to discover anything new because YouTube just wants to shove the same shit down your throat.

I don’t miss old YouTube, I miss certain creators but not old YouTube as a whole, though I might be biased because video essays are my favourite kind of videos

youtube can be defined as pre and post Mr beast. he figured out how to game the algorithm and everyone went the same direction to maximize monetization and not just having fun with the boys.

As someone who's been watching YouTube since like 2011, I find the argument that old YouTube is better to be frankly silly. Structure-wise there are a lot of changes i do dislike, like removing the dislike button, removing annotations, the regular arbitrary UI changes (though that has been a thing since YouTube itself has been a thing), but purely from a "what videos i can find" perspective, new YouTube has lots of great things to offer. There isn't a singular "A YouTube TM", and actually there are literally hundreds of communities, from really fun cooking videos, freely watchable professional level documentary type videos (like Folding Ideas), video essays, long form game reviews, deepdive history videos, thoughtful political commentaries, to honestly virtually infinite number of niches i could list all day.

Obviously the most popular stuff that the tiny kids watch is trash, but that was always how it went. Fred, The Annoying Orange, Pewdiepie, etc, all of these gave me the ick even when i was a teenager. I think overall it would be hard to say if old or new YouTube is better, it depends on what aspects we compare, but personally i definitely prefer the vast ocean of really high quality videos i can find on the site nowadays. And there are loads out there, one just has to stop watching slop and search for a little.

I think newer youtube still has a lot of interesting stuff, but I feel like you have to swim though a lot more trash recommendations to find it.

i fucking hate what the internet has become, call ing yourself creators and content fuck content, bring back art. art and dumb home made videos of normal people just having fun. the self importance and ads and bullshit. youtube used to be raw and unfiltered and most importantly REAL. the ogs used to make videos for fun, because they wanted too. Not because they are chasing a bank and for purley selfish reasons. money and capitalism ruins everything.

Old Youtube is anything before google purchased it and got rid of the DM messaging functions and the cool profiles you were able to customize and leave comments on other peoples profiles.

old youtube – creators werent blocked monetarily just because they said Fuck
making money for creators was far easier and quite a lot didnt have to rely on paid advertisers
didnt have ads shoved in every video requiring adblock just to access the dang site
criticizing someone didnt result in a 24+ hour suspension for "cyber bullying"
    algorhythms werent going stupidly insane
the bell and subcriptions actually meant something and you could easily find new videos by your subbed creators

9:41 I can't find a commentary video about "old youtube" that isn't focused on white people culture. Only 3 people from teh beginning where relatable . Nigahiga, Smosh, and =3

10:23 bro I completely agree TikTokers think they are so famous but the numbers don’t compare to YouTube having a million followers on TikTok is like having 10k on YouTube it’s a different ball game

Old Youtube was MILLENNIAL YOUTUBE, we dominated Pop Culture, this platform was about raw creativity and actual authenticity, this place was taken by amateur comedy, DIY tutorials, roadtrip vlogs, poetic clips, martial art compilations, dance choreographies, juggling films, really cool lookbooks and spicy political commentary channels. It was objectively better, it was more pure. These are FACTSSSS !!!! We were all bloggers, skaters, poets, photographers and playersssss in lifeeeeee 🎉🎉🎉 GenZ is all about weird pr0n0uns, complaining about pReTtY pRiViLeGe, pretentious video-essays over-analizing banal things, manifestation subliminals and r3dp1ll freaks 😂😅

Old YouTube for me I started watching YouTube back in 2007/2008 and I will say YouTube has changed some better some worse

    Back then we had
    •kickass dbz linkin park amvs
    •hilarious ytps
    •flash animations
    •no bullshit copyright system
•felt like a platform to have fun in
•fun super Mario 64 blooper videos

    Nowadays we have
    •YouTubers being pedophiles
•people taking YouTube very seriously as their only job because they don’t have actual skills
•it’s always a dick measuring contest with these content creators
    •cringey sponsor ads
    •YouTuber drama
    •apology videos
    •cancellation (I hate that term)
•YouTube being overly censored with the whole monetization demonetization crap
