US Briefly Names Alibaba, Baidu as Firms Aiding China’s Military

Bloomberg Television | April 20, 2026

The Pentagon added Alibaba, BYD, Baidu and TP-Link Technologies Co. to a list of companies that aid the Chinese military – before withdrawing it minutes later without explanation. The moves on Friday roiled shares of the affected listed companies and left analysts wondering about the administration’s intentions. If the list is reposted, they said it would be a show of strength ahead of President Donald Trump’s expected trip to China and meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in April. The updated list, which the US Federal Register a short while later declared “unpublished,” also removed two of China’s champions in production of memory chips, ChangXin Memory Technologies Inc. and Yangtze Memory Technologies Co. Asked about the notice, the Pentagon said in a statement to Bloomberg News that “we have nothing to announce at this time.” Bloomberg News Senior Editor for Technology & Strategic Industries Michael Shepard joins Bloomberg Businessweek Daily to discuss. He speaks with Carol Massar and Tim Stenovec.

Being labled an associate of the PLA might bother a company that relies on the US market for its existence. Such a label might also turn consumers against the labeled company in the US but would earn it respect for patriotism in China and help promote these companies in China. There are also many places in the world where the PRC is considered a hero for standing up to an increasingly coercive and aggressive US. It is thus suggested that the US should label more companies as being associated with the PLA because it helps them gain a greater market share beyond the borders of the US

This shameless hypocrisy and fearful warmongering is becoming unbearable. I can't fucking wait for the US to collapse and cease being the premier global power, and for China to rise once again as a civilised, respectful, responsible and rightful global power as it had been for thousands of years before the west bullied and exploited them into poverty.

China should just tell the US to f off and stop giving them any rare earth… If they are already doing this with their big tech firms, then why they are calling out China… Complete hypocrisy!
