Up The Irons: 50 Years of Iron Maiden

Justin Hawkins Rides Again | October 17, 2026

On Tuesday I was invited to London for the world premiere of “Iron Maiden: Burning Ambition” – a new documentary about the legendary band, which is released in cinemas today. It’s always a privilege to share any space with Iron Maiden and I’ll be doing it again in July when The Darkness support them at Knebworth & I can’t wait.

As a life long maiden fan id give the film a solid 7/10 . i understand where steve is coming from and i do think a documentary from their point of view would have probably been more interesting to a long term maiden fan. i myself could think of many more or better highlights from live performances than what they showed and ive seen a lot of the clips they used in previous documentaries.

however there were some new clips and some really cool eddie cgi art sequences that i enjoyed.

Id recommend it 7/10 it was fun to watch and its a great film for "newer" fans to get a sturdy overview of the bands history in a chronological way.

took my mum and dad to see this as they have been maiden fans since 1982 and were the ones who got me into the band at the age of 5 or 6 growing up in small town new zealand &there were several points in the film where i was crying particularly the parts about paul cause i was lucky enough to meet him in christchurch new zealand in 2009 when i was 16

50 years a remarkable achievement especially for a successful band who, the cuckold, msm ignores! Up the Hammers!!

I believe Ive still got my original IM T-Shirt from 1982/83 (its a blur to me now), unless swmbo has thrown it out. Where has all the fcuking time gone😲😲😲😲🧐🧐🧐 Back then we had LPs, great album art, cassettes at a push, happier times.

Well done! First time I saw Maiden was 1982 and I’ve seen every tour, most multiple times, and in other countries, over 100 shows. Except the Blaze years, only 2 shows. I’ll be there for this next tour 🤘

Metal news of the week: Sleep Token have surprise-released the Even In Arcadia: Instrumental Edition. Arriving exactly one year after their chart-topping fourth album, this release offers a hauntingly beautiful new way to experience the band’s signature atmospheric sound.

You don’t have to be an Iron Maiden fan to appreciate a documentary like this. I mean, who wouldn’t want to learn about such an iconic band? Thankfully, I loves me some Iron Maiden. I learned about them from all the cooler older kids wearing their tees at school, lol.

I hope they can give a little shout-out to Paul Mario Day, the band's first singer after they named themselves Iron Maiden.

Paul died not long ago and was a friend of mine. He also co-wrote two of the early songs that he never got credit or money for. But he told me he later got a face-to-face admission from Steve himself, so he just had to be satisfied with that.

The gig they took the footage for beast over Hammersmith and used in the doc was my first ever gig at the ripe old age of 13 Loved Maiden in those days and NOTB , but always regretted not seeing them with D’Ianno. The t shirt was such a big part of the concert going ritual Wish i still had mine, had Eddie planting the union jack on Britain, loved that t shirt ! Incidentally the director Malcolm was a mate and colleague when i was starting out in photography business late 80s , also got to work with Bruce on a promo in the 90s , seemed like a decent polite guy. Seemed odd Steve Harris wasn’t there at the premier, maybe his comments explain his absence Do think Documentaries should be as objective as possible, otherwise not really documentaries, they would just be promos. And you get a 3rd party perspective

Why didn’t you release your solo album? I bet it would have sounded awesome maybe almost as good as iron maiden and probably much better than any of my music which is available on all music platforms

What just blows my mind is that, after all these years, they still brought out an album like Senjutsu that's fresh, full of banger tracks, and new – yet still completely Maiden.

Will be watching the doccie tomorrow – never been so excited to go to the movies lol 🤘

I saw Iron Maiden supporting Samson at The Music Machine in 1979 and then twice in Guildford. For the second gig (Civic Hall) my amazing dad (I was barely 15 and shite at art) had painted the Iron Maiden lettering and the ‘Stones Mouth’ logo they were using at the time on a sheepskin denim cutoff. I met Steve Arris in the bar (different times…) and he said it was the first one he’d seen. They changed to the ‘Eddie’ logo later that year.
