Ive tried to read the trilogy for Fifty years. Never been able to. I've watched the films several times and never knew what the fuck was happening.

    Now I understand 😁.
Thanks Ryan. You made that super easy. A real convinience.

"what does she plan, swimming back to middle earth? 😅"
    "Yeah pretty much."
    "OMG, you're serious?" 😮
Although ironically if Tolkien had written that we would probably accept it without much question. She is a Hero after all. Seems like some of them did pretty epic stuff. I don't know about that, but if Tolkien said so I would probably say "okay, fine".
But these guys are not Tolkien, so screw em.

Tolkien gave the story of Stings name in the book, and it's kind of significant. It shows how swords get their names, which the audience might wonder, and it's also a character progression for Bilbo. The sword is named in honor of his first victory, which reminds the audience of his character progression. I am glad they left that in. Out of all the stuff they packed into these that's not one I object to.

"by padding the hell out of it, and adding a bunch of stuff that is, you know, completely unnecessary."
    Most accurate description ever.
Too bad because I liked the book but I'm not ready to watch it over a three film trilogy mixed in with 4/5th irrelevant tripe.

You know I never noticed that Shelob stabs him and it says nothing about his armor. Like she could have got him somewhere else but it's weird that he doesn't address that in either medium.
And also the fact that being bitten by a spider that big would probably be akin to being stabbed by a set of ice tongs. Maybe not deadly but it's going to make a significant wound, not a tiny scratch. They don't even mention it.
Like you ever try crossing a desert after receiving a couple smallish stab wounds, with no clean water or medical provisions? That's going to weaken you significantly and probably get infected eventually, sleeping on the ground and not bathed in weeks (which is another thing they gloss over, guys were probably pretty rank after a month on the road. And no one ever goes to the bathroom in this universe. It's weird to imagine the Fellowship digging latrines at their camp every night and taking turns to go squat over a hole in the ground just outside the firelight. But that's how it would really go, as you know if you have ever slept outside for a period of time).

The New Zealand Tourism Board guy cracks me up every time. I was just listening to this as I washed dishes and I still laughed when that line showed up because I could see him in my head, giving his thumbs up. 😅

The Hobbit as 2 movies with a ton more practical effects would have been great. Not LOTR quality, but would have been pretty good. The padding kills the pace of the story and the CGI is shockingly bad in spots. The pacing of the LOTR movies would have been hurt by including things from the books like Tom Bombadil and the Scouring of the Shire.

    “No man can defeat me”
    “I am no man”
“Well actually, in this case man" is referring to a race, not a gender, so it still applies to you. You really need to pay attention to the subtext if you want to make proper inferences.”

We're always blow my mind is saruman…. Gets killed in the Shire in the books…. And in the movies he falls off his Tower…. Honestly I kind of like both… I know that the movies are going to be different than the books so I know that going in…😊

An amusing catalogue of destruction and despair that characterises the screen spiral of these generally entertaining books and whatever the f*ck 'inspired' the made up prequels.

Actually Sauron knows very quickly that Frodo has the ring, in both the book and the movie, but he never thinks that the Fellowships goal was to destroy it, because the corruption of the ring makes that near impossible without intervention, because Mount Doom is where it is strongest.

I can easily see a lot of people liking this but I just can't get into it. It's so monotonous. It's just the same tone of voice and facial expressions over and over again.

5:27 of course ally of modern audience
screen rant would ask this.. but they showed Gladriel with ring, Gandolf would be like that if not worse.. that's why that scene is there…its obvious.
