‘The Three Hikers’ tells the story of three Americans (Sarah Shourd, Shane Bauer, and Josh Fattal) who went hiking in Northern Iraqi Kurdistan in July 2009, and were captured and held as political hostages by the Iranian Government for more than two years. Set against the backdrop of the complex geopolitical stalemate between the United States and Iran and the emergence of their crisis as an international news story, the documentary chronicles Sarah, Shane, and Josh’s time in prison while also telling the very personal story of three families and their unyielding efforts to get their loved ones home.

I remember seeing this on the news when it happened. Didn’t give it any importance, some kids hiking and crossed the border unknowingly. That’s it.
Today, though, watching the documentary it hit home. Went recently through almost the same in Afghanistan.
Today this happens more often than we realize. This has become a business for those rogue regimes and our passport it’s a target. Today there are many Americans, British, Canadians and Europeans detained in Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, China, Russia and some other places, sitting in a dungeon waiting to be released.
