You forgot the suicide of Freddie Prinze. Maybe that didn't hit as hard for some…but I was 11 and Chico and the Man was beloved to kids my age. I was devastated and it opened up conversations on suicide and people dying young.

The biggest news story in the Wash. DC area where I lived, was the seizure of three buildings in DC from March 9-11, 1977, by members of the Hanafi Muslim sect. Two people were killed, three were wounded, including future mayor Marion Barry, and 140 were taken hostage. The leader was demanding the removal of a movie from theaters and for the killers of his family to be turned over to him for justice. It finally ended when several diplomats negotiated an end. Really surprised this was not included in the timeline given it was such a major event.

My youngest brother was born in the Fall of 1977, my parents are gone but me and my siblings are close and look out for each other . I also got my kitten in 1977 when I was 8. Snowball lived to be almost 16, I had her put down due to her having a devastating seizure in 1993; I was 24.

1977. Thenyear l attended my first concert. Peter Frampton at Angel (Anaheim) Stadium. It was July 6th, 1977 becausebill never forget being home andbcatching the quick mention on the local L.A. news of the concert that happened at the very last news story to close their broadcast and just after the newsman made mention that the next days date would be/read
7-7-77 and thats always been vivid in my mind. Coming from someone born Mar 3rd and laughing in 2003 the day it was
03-03-03 !!

Yeah l was 14 when Elvis' death was announced. Being from California visiting my best friend whos family moved to Kansas while standing in line for a ride at Silver Dollar city amusement park in the Ozarks or near Brandson, MO.. unsure?
(wasnt driving & didnt pay attention)
But l think the closer to MEMPHIS one might be in the country on that day… the deeper impact it had on the public in general. Cause we were in the middle of a highly anticipated day and l think all the life deflated in front of our eyes, from the face of the guy manning the head of the ride line.. who relayed like a sick zombie that Elvis had been found dead. Basically the entire park of people having fun and its employees just disbanded ever so gradually but rapid enough to notice and suddenly feel we wernt priority AT ALL or even PRESENT… and that it was wrong of us to want to continue to ride their rides and justify the price of admission for that day we had paid for. It cut short our church groups far traveled field trip to the park just because LIFE shut down upon that days news. It was a Saturday if l recall.

I’m surprised I haven’t discovered you sooner. Star Wars is my most significant memory from 1977; I was nearly 10 years old and have been obsessed ever since.
You overlooked Close Encounters of the Third Kind, which premiered in November of that year. It was quite a big deal at the time. My friends and I were eager to see Close Encounters 1 and 2, hoping they would be aired on television. It was only later that I learned that there was no CE1 or CE2.
Great video and an excellent series. Thank you!

How could you just skip over “Saturday Night Fever” with just a bare mention? The movie was a cultural phenomenon and the soundtrack was among the best-selling albums in music history, and still ranks among the best-selling soundtrack albums worldwide, with sales figures of over 40 million copies. Furthermore, the Bee Gees, had songs that spent 3 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts. “How Deep is Your Love” reigns as the most successful Bee Gees song. As the first of the six consecutive chart-toppers, “How Deep is Your Love” spent over 30 weeks on the charts and was followed by tracks like “Night Fever,” and “Stayin’ Alive.
