Weird History | June 9, 2026

Have you ever wondered what it was like to live in the 1960s? Timeline is the Weird History channel’s prestige documentary series that examines history, decade by decade and year by year, covering the people, news, culture, sports, and entertainment that defined the past and shaped the world we live in today.

In this episode we look at 1969, the year The Beatles broke up, the Manson Family started claiming victims, and mankind landed on the moon.

So which events from 1969 interest you the most? Let us know in the comments!

(Much like real history, this video was produced entirely by human beings.)

My family and I were living in Hawai'i during the late 60s. Because satellite transmissions weren't really available, it was a bit like living on another planet. We loved it!

No mention of Fred Hamptons assassination, Kareem getting drafted into the NBA, or The Jackson 5 releasing their debut album introducing the world to Michael Jackson? DAMN YOUR CHOICES FOR 1969 IS TRASH

No mention of Matt Goening and his sisters Maggie and Lisa in the opening by any one else? Very cool seeing the inspiration for The Simpsons. Needed to see his mom and Dad though. See if they look like Homer and Marge.

2026: CBS news cancels Steven Colbert and fires a news host who is critical of the trump administration. America is involved in a deeply unpopular war. The Watertown, WI school board bans the high school orchestra from playing an instrumental honoring the Stonewall riots. A local Lutheran church allows the orchestra to perform the piece in their sanctuary. The composer flies out to conduct the performance. The performance now has over 22,000 views on YouTube, likely making it the most watched high school orchestra concert in history.

This is the American weird channel. We don’t care about your baseball in Australia. You may want to either retitle this USA edition or make it ACTUALLY world events. We’ve had some ripper AFL moments in Australian football. We have musicians and politicians. We only really hear mostly American news.

I was born in 1973, shortly after they released the POWs from Vietnam. Back then, we watched the news every night. Cronkite, David Brinkley, Roger Mudd, and Harry Reasoner. The News was built on trust back then. We actually looked upon those men, and many others, to tell us the Truth, and they did, above all else, that was what mattered. Anyway, I hear people talk about how awful things are today, and the first thing I like to say is we have nothing on 1968-69. We are whiners compared to what people had to endure back then. I am a student of History. My favorite hobby is to absorb what I know about a particular era and try to imagine what it felt like at that moment. Timeline is an absolute wonderful tool to help capture that. We may be on the verge of tearing ourselves apart, but back then, we DID tear this country and each other to shreds, but its also what has helped to learn about and unite with each other as well. Great show…

21:34 As of 2026, Pacific Avenue in Presidio Heights has not changed one bit since 1969. That view looks exactly the same today as it did in 1969 with the exception of a few small trees, which have grown up. Every house, every roofline, every window and door is EXACTLY the same, which is kind of amazing, I think.

Штаты в очередной раз обосрались и сдали своего партнера во Вьетноме. Сегодня рыжий идиот трамп продолжает сдавать всех!!!!!! The U.S. has screwed up yet again and betrayed its ally in Vietnam. Today, that red-haired idiot Trump keeps betraying everyone!!!!!!

The only thing I would have added was the final Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies short of the Golden Theatrical era of cartoons. "Injun Trouble" with Cool Cat, September 20, 1969.
Other than that, excellent video, especially Stonewall Inn! 1969 was a very packed year!

Not mentioned was Joe Namath's victory at the Superbowl, Nixon Silent Majority speech, the Protest at Washington DC, the deaths of Brian Jones, Joseph Kennedy, Boris Karloff and Robert Taylor.

I'd love to watch a timeline for something like the 1880s. Some decade full of events and world changes but often forgotten and with no one still living from that time.

And just like that, Timeline is done. What another great season of videos. You guys are incredible. I can't wait to see what decade you guys will cover next. 1950s? 2010s? I will be there.

Watching this and seeing multiple riots and violent protests from back and then considering whats happening today…. nothing has really changed. Today's violence and protests are really nothing new. The weatherman and 4 days of violence was silly

My 2nd great-grandfather passed away in 1969 at the age of 89 (born in 1879). The technological changes he saw in the world from the late 1870s to the late 1960s are mind-boggling. He saw it go from gunslingers to hippies. Horsepower to the Space Age.

    Probably the
    most exciting year ever.
Left out a couple of major events however.
The ny jets winning super bowl 3
    And
    The beatles rooftop concert
