My gran used to take me to the library in Maidenhead every week in the 70s and I'd take a gorgeous Railway Series hardback book home to read. I read all 26 books in the series numerous times and so I know FOR A FACT that Thomas was THE tank engine, not just any old tank engine. The other 'THE' engines in the list were:
Thomas the Tank Engine (1946)
James the Red Engine (1948)
Henry the Green Engine (1951)
Toby the Tram Engine (1952)
Gordon the Big Engine (1953)
Edward the Blue Engine (1954)
Percy the Small Engine (1956)
The Little Old Engine (1959)
The Twin Engines (1960)
Stepney the "Bluebell" Engine (1963)
Oliver the Western Engine (1969)
Duke the Lost Engine (1970)

Can I say that I just deeply appreciate your honest interest in the topics you research, the glee in your eyes experiencing the ride in Thomas made me smile. Congratulations to make it so entertaining!

Tom, one of the tank drivers, has such a loving, passionate look in his eyes, and he adores the exhilaration of driving that train every day. Love to see that

Oh my god, I would have loved to visit this train when I was a kid. I absolutely adored the Thomas the Tank Engine series. It incredible how much the landscape looks like the series as well. Honestly, I might well still check it out if I'm ever in the area.

I know it's on tracks, but if they used a SatNav, would it be a TomTom too? 😅

Grew up travelling a LOT on the NVR even in the can at one point. Such an underrrated and under visited attraction, also famous for many TV/Movie moments: 007, Dirty Dozen, a Queen music video and even a London’s Burning episode!
The whole Nene park and the NVR well worth a visit – and I grew up knowing that my local Thomas was the “real” Thomas…

Awesome video as always Tom. I'm so enjoying this series.
At the start you said you tried not to make too many videos about trains. Now that makes me want to see you make a series just about trains exclusively! We all love trains deep down inside whether we admit it or not….

What I like about nvr is that it’s not a cash grab by Mattel
The reverend himself gave nvr permission to use Thomas (as seen on his plaques) and his own permission out ranks Mattel

Currently the title is "Thomas, a tank engine, is not Thomas the Tank Engine"
I saw the alt title is "This is why trains used to be scary"
I look back on the video backlog and currently they're nearly all quotes from the video or a "I can't believe" style headline.
I have to say, I'm starting to despise that all the new Tom Scott videos get A/B tested towards quotes and reaction titles compared to titles that state what the subject matter is.

And I'm watching this now as a guy who was born with the name tom ( changed when a toddler to Richard) watching this video about a guy named tom filming a guy named tom driving a train named Tom hahaha
