I made a mistake this episode. Poison The Preacher – 'Things I Want' is an EP. It should not have been included in the top 5. The original plan for this week was to make it the Dealer's Choice because it's killer. Then I heard Coffin Hunters and decided on it, but didn't edit my show notes. This episode was recorded ahead of schedule because, as you're reading this, I'm on the road to go on a fishing trip with my brother. I wasn't home to correct the error, but it won't happen again.

Absolutely agree about Psycroptic! Tech death is not one of my favourite genres, but for Psycroptic I make an exception! They actually write proper songs with hooks and groove, rather than being a total wank fest!

Australia’s tech death scene is going off atm “the absolution sequence” is releasing an album soon a semi underground band from Tasmania. But overall the scene of metal as a whole is doing good just wish were I lived (cairns) we had some but he haven’t even had a local show in 12 years. I still think growths new album is my fav from an this year but this is a high second ngl.

Protect The Hero – Within … is a great Progressive Tech-Metal release (still no bad albums)
*don't know where i would rank it yet, but it wouldn't top Palimpsest, Volition or Fortress
Gotta check out the new Psycroptic (the rest of his picks aren't for me) …
*so what he really means by it being more groovy is its more repetitive/accessible (boring) …
that plus the typical vocalist & production they have now, might lose me but i will still give it a chance
(seriously doubt it can live up to The Scepter Of The Ancients)
Don't know if this "Keanu Reeves" wannabe has any worth while philosophy's …
especially after hearing his delusional take on guitar technique (Speed) on another video (& now his Tech Death take in this video):
i don't put much stock in these prejudices, limitations & inferiority's protected in these "philosophical" video's

Psycroptic was seriously good. It was not overly self indulgent and circle jerking like most tech, it was just good ass tech.
Left to die was a great homage in my opinion.
Fuming mouth was my favourite this week. I love anything crusty. And The ringing bell went hard af.

Psycroptics new album is such an excellent standard for tech death. As you said the groovy riffs they throw in the songs are unreal! Excellent choice for top. Protest the Hero is also excellent as well! Loved it

Psycroptic is one of the handful of tech bands that I still listen to after I burned out on the genre. Joe Haley is a guitar god and one of my favorite players. Dude writes the sickest tunes and has his own sound that you can instantly pick out as his riff style. Cool dude too, got to shoot the shit w him a couple of times. 👍

Hi John!
I noticed more rings in the last Top 5 New Album release video. Where did you get them?
I looking to get more rings, and I only know of Clocks and Colours that is supposed to be really good. They have Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, Lamb of God rings etc, are the only ones they have I’m interested in

Speaking of fever dreams… I had a week of them last week. I became dangerously dehydrated. Funny thing about fever dreams is they often give you massive insight into your psyche. I feel terrific now that I've recovered! Definitely going to check out Psycroptic, Coffin hunters sounds right up my alley too.

I don't technically like listening to all of them but I'm really enjoying all these bands, like Coffin Hunters and Castle Rat, that are sounding and looking really vintage! It's a lot of fun.
