Hi Jon, I’ve been watching HMP for a while and wanted to throw something at you that I can’t resolve on my own.

I spent years in hip-hop and rap — writing lyrics, trying different ideas, hopping genres. I’ve decided to distance myself from that completely. I’m not trying to hybridize it. I’m treating it as a closed chapter.

What’s left is my voice. I’m working on singing instead of rapping: more resonance, more tone, more sustain. I’m collaborating with producers on doom-leaning tracks that I write lyrics for and sing over.

The odd part is the reality of my genre history. Rap trained me to think in rhythm, breath, and density. Doom is asking for weight, space, and a different kind of honesty and vocal use. I don’t know yet whether that background is an advantage or something I have to unlearn.
I figured if anyone would find that an interesting quandary, it might be you! 😁

    Thanks for your content!

Dude these videos are my Saturday morning ritual thank you. Also old ruins scratches an itch I didn’t even know I had, brings me back to when I was a teen first discovering metal way back when. Thank you 🙏

    Wowwww!! Thank you ❤

Schizophrenic, weird and extremely eclectic — finally, someone understands what we were trying to do 😂

Seriously though, Thank you so much for listening, for embracing the madness, and for the kind words! ❤️

Thank you Jon, always nice to listen to your opinion!
I liked the new Anthrax album. I listened to some of it, and my favourite song so far is "Everybody's got a plan" 🤘
Also thanks you for the Submasq recommendation, I haven't heard of them before, but that album cover looks so fun and weird 🤘
Oh, on that note, Anthrax's album art is also pretty "weird", as in a little surrealistic, kinds fitting for prog metal. And I think it's great!!

And, unrelated to music, I'm also very happy winter is coming. I really dislike summer and heat, cold and rain is my natural habitat 🫶

Anthrax new albums is great! But Ch’aom EP just entranced me when I listened to it! Great tremolo licks, crazy dissonant moments. Excellent! Taskforce Toxicator was a classic thrash one for this week too! Need to still listen to Creeper Bud, Sea Sleeper, Komutator

John, to be true, I’ve always liked Anthrax for their unconventional approach within the "Big Four." Heavy metal vocals paired with a fierce guitar gallop—mixed with numerous pop-culture references (literature, comics) and political themes—were a treat for my ears. Meanwhile, the guys' laid-back style was a treat for the eyes. Besides, Anthrax was and remains the most "punk" band in the traditional thrash scene. What’s more, their influence on nu-metal and groove metal remains somewhat underrated. After decades and numerous upheavals, they remain the brightest spot on the map of thrash giants. Their latest album is the ultimate proof of this. Sure, it might not be quite as strong as its predecessor (but i'm not sure yet, it's too erly to call which of 3 second Belladonna era Anthrax albums it the best or worst for me), but the guys are still trying new things (like black metal elements) and remain socially and politically engaged. Their music is alive; they aren't trying—and never have tried—to build a monument to themselves. Anthrax is electric, is eclectic, is social aware and i'm lovin' it. That’s what I value most about them. As for the latest Submasq—well, they’re trying to be as eclectic as Wyclef Jean was on his solo albums during his prime. Good on them! Old Ruins as the number one album? Great choice; no further questions here. Cheers, G.

Metal is pure greatness, and finding the band's that fit with a cool game works. First hearing Imaginations From The Other Side by Blind Guardian was my moment. Raised listening to hard rock and then finding, as a table top gamer, metal was "it". And I wish I knew of old style power metal and black metal back in the early 90s. No regrets liking hard rock and some goth (Sisters of Mercy in their peak still sounds great), but Helloween and Blind Guardian, as a gamer? Peak.

It turns out that all you have to discover is “Mount Arreat” where “Once There Was Light” and the Old Ruins performance can make your weekend unforgettable, actually within seconds! What a choice!!! Happy Heavy Metal Philosophy everybody 👌🤝🙃🤘

I've listened to the new Anthrax album 4 times since yesterday. I don't see myself stopping either. The last 4 Anthrax albums(minus the live album) have all been consistently great for me. And that's with 2 different lead singers.
