I remeber the Michelangelo virus. My father had an XT clone he used to dial into work. My mom was taking a secretary course at the local Comunity College. She must have brought it home from her school. My fathers work sent a copy of Norton Anti virus and Michelangelo showed up on all her disks and the hard drive. So we cleaned all the disks and nothing happened to the computer. So John McCathy might have been right about the damage being mitigated by anti virus software.

For some reason, I tend to get very suspicious, when I hear the name McAffee. It could have something to do with the software wearing this brand behaving like a literal malware in our computers today.

Fascinating! Though sleep deprived I had to watch 'til the end. Now that's impressive story-telling. Bit like the book on anti-gravity. I just couldn't put it down.

The most annoying virus I ever had was "regsvr.exe" to the point when I saw it again, I felt like "So you are back, you sonavabitch".

It's great how in these days that there's a very little chance to get viruses as every PC comes built in with Windows Defender. It works so well, there really isn't a need to buy a paid one. I've had 3 computers since 2007 and not one has gotten a virus, just some false positives.

'Roll on the millennium bug'
So, you gonna chime in with the lies about millennium bug too?
Or will you portrait it as a real threat that it was?

I blame The Plague from 'Hackers' (1996) for the Michelangelo virus. While middle aged conservatively dressed virus "experts" raised the hype train on a virus, probably written by some snotty kid in sneakers, the real virus expert.

I was a freshman in High School when this happened. The computer lab teacher was frantic trying to get student volunteers to help run the antivirus on the IBM EduQuests that littered the labs. I honestly think he just didn't want to spend a weekend at school doing it himself.
